In the current economy, it's more likely they'll ask you to do it for the exposure...🀣

Nail on the head!! The trick is to get the funding!!!

(Looks down back of sofa for loose change to send Curator Rob)

I'm sure govt would just say if Huxley didn't eat so many biscuits, you'd have the money for a new archive store

And I know every archivist has a face and a job and we need you. I think there will need to be some sort of compromise tho because the money supporting archives is often controlled by people who don't understand. I don't think it can all be instant access all the time. But it's not easy

28.02.2026 10:57 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah I get you. My pre coffee brain was only addressing a volumetric issue.
I hear ya.

Good point. a triage approach might help. Keep the pot local, and the CBM, slags, and bulk animal bones for some sites in deep store. Also more effective to have a research centre at the caves so the researcher can examine the boxes there.
it's only one poss solution I'm sure there's others

28.02.2026 10:44 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Also I don't think it's an either/or situation. Local archive hubs with expertise should always be maintained, but we might think about lightening their load by offsiting some material.

28.02.2026 10:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

True, not a panacea for all things, but I'd be keen to see just one example where a researcher needed access to boxes of CBM and couldn't wait 2-4 weeks to get it.

A real house made of paper

Nonetheless, you reminded me of the Oxfordshire eccentric, John Towle and his fight with the railway!! He built a paper house along the proposed line to thwart development (and get compensation!)

What a lot of heavy lifting 17 February has to do today!

The start of Chinese Lunar New Year (ζε–œη™Όθ²‘!), the start of Lent (Happy Pancake Day/ Mardis Gras!) and the beginning of the month of Ramadan (Ramadan Mubarak!)

However you spend this day, and the days to come, I wish you joy of it!

Archaeology conducted in space Archaeology conducted in space - Earth.com

Archaeologists study how people lived in the past by digging into the ground and examining the artifacts they left behind. A team of researchers has now applied that same logic to the International Space Station. The results offer a revealing look at how humans adapt to life beyond Earth.
