4th generation farmer, journalist and agriculture/AgTech comms and PR professional. Lover of cats, dogs, gardening and all things agriculture. Big fan of science!
This will not go like imagined. lol
23.09.2025 13:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I used to diligently pour over #SCOTUS opinions, carefully analyzing each concurrence and dissent. Now, I just use them to wipe my ass.
09.04.2025 00:08 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0You need to resign, stat. I am an avid liberal and I promise to do everything I can going forward to make sure you never get elected again. Voting no was a complete betrayal of your fellow Democratic congressmen and women and our country.
14.03.2025 16:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A common-sense report out today from the World Resources Institute on actionable ways to control methane emissions in agriculture. I approve!
07.03.2025 16:54 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, if it makes you feel any better, I just read through the report and think itβs fantastic!
07.03.2025 15:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I feel this deep in my soul.
07.03.2025 15:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm more interested in what the other farmers think. Journalists (and I am one, as well as a farmer), unfortunately, get a lot of things wrong when it comes to agriculture.
04.03.2025 22:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They consider themselves "farmers" because they own the land. They think they can do it better than whoever was leasing their land before (or managing the land for them). They make big investments and immediately fail. Owning the land does not a farmer make. But they don't realize that. 2/2
04.03.2025 19:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Right. But what I mean, is they have never actually been in charge of farming production. They just been on the peripheral as a land owner. So what was her actual 'street cred' as a farmer herself? I've seen this happen many times with people with farm land, and non-farming money.1/2
04.03.2025 19:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I would love to understand more of the backstory here. From my experience in agriculture, people like this are "farmers" in the sense they have an ownership interest in agricultural land through their family. But haven't ACTUALLY farmed themselves. Just collected checks.
04.03.2025 18:35 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Was thinking that myself a few hours ago!
28.02.2025 21:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Trump/DOGE fallout from the farm community is building up steam. Glad to see some high-level reporting on the issue.

Thanks for including me in this update @builduprdn.bsky.social !
19.02.2025 21:27 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1This article (published Monday) is a good update on the Trump/DOGE funding freeze impacts on farmers.
Every day these funds are on hold, the closer it gets to spring planting time. Not good.

A great explanation on the link between Avian Flu, egg prices and government response (or lack thereof).
Though I do think there is a lot more 'at risk' with Avian Flu than just egg prices that need attention. It's circulating in cattle now, as well as swine. Plus humans!
Great explanation. Thank you!
17.02.2025 20:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An update on my post from last week on the impacts of Trump 2.0 on U.S. farmers and ranchers. This week's horror story? Massive firings at the USDA.

My take on what's happening since Trump took office in agriculture. Please share!

First, tariffs - which hurt U.S. farmers.
Next, dismantling USAID - which hurt U.S. farmers.
Now this.
Whatever its rationale, it's now clear that the GOP is waging economic war on U.S. farmers.

Agree with this
09.02.2025 13:53 β π 16 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Is that what we were hoping for? I have a feeling not. But here we are. The baby's done been tossed. 4/4
08.02.2025 19:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But what about the NGOs that had a large portion of their budget from USAID? Many will simply cease to exist. Those that remain will be the ones with large, private $$ pockets. So, we are looking at much more dominance from privately funded NGOs, with their own agendas - think the Gates Foundation.
08.02.2025 19:04 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0As Geoff, the author, said to me: "I've always wanted review and reform. But now the baby has been thrown out with the bathwater by folk who had no idea there was a baby."
Also, who fills the "vacuum" left by USAID pulling out. You'll hear Geoff talk about China. No big surprise there.2/4
Trying to wrap your head around what USAID does beyond the sensationalist headlines (and White House press releases)?
This is the best explanation I've seen of what the deletion of USAID will mean. Translation = it's not good.1/4

Yep. I've been seeing posts on LinkedIn from a lot of angry California farm officials over Trump's "turn the taps on" ploy.
It did nothing for fighting the California wildfires and instead wasted precious water resources California farmers will need in the summer.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
Has anybody debunked the WhiteHouse claims claiming "fraud" by USAID? The... "$1.5 million to βadvance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbiaβs workplaces and business communitiesβ etc and what not.
It's being passed all over social media, but I can't find any information on the allegations.
