The Cemeteries of Amalo. The Goblin Emperor is in the same universe, but the trilogy feels like a separate story, despite referencing the first book. Goblin Emperor is a bit slow, but interesting. A lot of world-building. I definitely remember it had a different vibe than the trilogy.
