I wonder if this might indicate that older adults rely more on the visual aspects of speech than younger people?

However, studies on this effect in aging adults have proven inconclusive. Learn more in this review! https://pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/2025_JSLHR-25-00026

Hopefully the likes of Catrin and colleagues will continue their vital work in that direction. My adult SLT colleagues at Wrexham are well placed to supervise if they do. π€π»
20.11.2025 21:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is definitely something Iβve discovered moving to Wales. There is a real dearth of Welsh language resources. I think the starting point is getting normative data. Luckily in paediatrics we have Prosiect Pengwin happening. Hopefully thereβll be more adult resources soon too

In short⦠no⦠but it appears that therapists in North Wales tend to assess informally in Welsh.
The development of Welsh Language assessments appears to be high on the agenda given that other minority languages e.g. Basque have translated versions of standardised assessments.
Proud lecturer moment⦠One of our first cohort of Speech and Language Therapy graduates from @wrexhamuni.bsky.social Catrin Khalili, talking about Welsh Language Aphasia Assessment.

Pleased to present initial results at the Open House Research event at Wrexham University of our study investigating the production of Welsh vowels carried out at the National Eisteddfod back in August.
Great talks also from Chris Bellis (Physiotherapy) and Dmitrii Iarovoi (Cyber and Computing).
