Bush, Billings and the Peace that Forces Out – Olympia Time

South Puget Sound’s identity is a truce between Yankee order and Appalachian independence. From George Washington Bush to Chinese exclusion and timber unions, elites bent rules to protect stability for insiders. The result: pragmatic, regulated, exclusionary peace.

Texas Spent Years Screaming About β€˜Snowflakes’ On Campus. Now It’s Building The World’s Biggest Safe Space. For the better part of a decade, conservative politiciansβ€”and Texas politicians in particularβ€”have been absolutely apoplectic about the state of free speech on college campuses. You’ve heard …

After years attacking β€œsafe spaces,” Texas leaders backed a rule letting students avoid β€œunnecessarily controversial” topics, requiring syllabus disclosures and β€œbalanced” views. The vague policy chills speech and undercuts the GOP’s past campus free-speech crusade.

2025 saw more evictions than ever in Washington state - Gig Harbor Now In Pierce County, 3,655 eviction actions were filed last year, 87 more than in 2024.Β But the rate of growth has slowed.

WA hit a record 23k eviction filings in 2025, up 57% from 2019. Growth slowed but remains high, with King, Pierce and Snohomish leading. Many cases end in default judgments despite the state’s right-to-counsel program, as renters don’t respond or appear in court

Candace Owens’s Erika Kirk Docuseries Is, Predictably, NUTS It’s also fairly humiliating for right-wing media’s biggest stars, who may abhor Candace but can’t seem to beat her at her game.

It i possible to ignore someone making up claims about a kind of significant political media figure. But Candace Owens has been held up for years, despite just making stuff like this up. So now that she's taking swings at the legs of her own chair, let's watch.

Bipartisan effort to tax social media gains momentum – Pluribus News

Taxing the advertising from digital monopolies is the best, most direct policy regarding social media platforms. Second to actually breaking up the digital advertising platforms.

Still in pending even though I put in the application on October 7 of 2025, which was over four months ago, and that there are, in her words, hundreds of thousands of people that are in the same situation because Tarrant County is one of the top 10 counties that people in the US are moving to. Spread the word! #fyp #texaselections #tarrantcounty @jasmineforus

Matt registered to vote on October 7, 2025, in Tarrant County, TX. Four months later, his registration is still pending. When he contacted the county, he was told that he was one of hundreds of thousands.

Check your registration, TX!

Racism in Housing and the Importance of the Local Grind – Olympia Time

When the battle seems far away and out of control, we need reminding the fight for justice remains local and ongoing.

After MLK’s assassination, Olympia confronted local racism. Black residents exposed housing discrimination and forced 1968 open housing laws.

A murder warrant based on "possible" cause: "Person B bought aspirin. If they intended to poison a relative, it's a crime." This replaces evidence with a hypothetical, allowing a raid to find a crime that may exist.

I believe the New York Times’ bad take on how long vote-by-mail states take to count ballots reflects its New York, precinct-voting lens. In Washington and Oregon, the only media figures who complain seem willfully obtuse about why counting takes time.

Misinformation thrives in a vacuum. If we don't explain why it takes 20 days (to verify signatures and allow for mail transit) people fill that silence with conspiracies. We shouldn't blame the voters. We should transparently defend the process.

They aren’t wrong that bad actors exploit the delay to spread rumors. But the solution isn’t to disenfranchise thousands of people just to make the map turn colors faster on a Tuesday

If anything, without the grace period in CA, late rejections would have spiked as the state transitions to vote by mail over the last decade plus.

20.02.2026 14:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Voters don’t think about administrative grace periods. They just think about the deadline. If the rule is Vote by Tuesday, they vote Tuesday. They can’t see the 3-day mail lag or the week of processing that follows their drop-off.

Then there's the signature cure. In WA, we have up to 21 days to fix signature issues. If your hand was shaky or your name changed, you have time to cure your ballot.

In an all-mail system, the USPS is a variable. A receipt deadline punishes the voter for a logistical error they didn't cause. Our rules ensure your franchise isn't killed by a slow delivery.

Most "fast" states use a Receipt Deadline, if your ballot isn't in their hands by 8 PM, it’s trash. WA and CA use a postmark deadline. If you mail it on Election Day, it counts. We treat the mailbox like a drop box to ensure your intent beats mail speed.

Recent data from 2026 shows a sharp decline in youth approval for the administration. Younger voters are more sensitive to immediate stressors like grocery and housing costs. Without settled partisan loyalty, they are quickly rerouting their support to new architects. /4

Because the young brain is more plastic and less locked into habitual pathways, this group is highly volatile. We are seeing this now as young voters shift away from President Trump. The economic expressways they were promised in 2024 have not yet materialized. /3

Voting is a complex cognitive task. It requires the brain to integrate abstract policy with long-term consequences. Since the frontal lobe is the last to mature, the single most important factor in youth turnout is brain development. The highways are still being built. /2

No, your brain doesn’t suddenly β€˜fully develop’ at 25. Here’s what the neuroscience actually shows The claim that the brain, and particularly the frontal lobe, finishes developing at 25 is far less solid than social media would have you believe.

🧡
New neuroscience shows the brain is actually under construction until at least age 32.

This extended adolescence explains why voter turnout only begins to climb steadily as people enter their thirties and settle their neural pathways. /1

Why Corporate Media Needed to Misrepresent Jesse Jackson The Rev. Jesse Jackson's kind of politics terrified an elite that thrives on keeping the 99 Percent divided and conquered.

Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition united multiracial, working-class voters with a left populist agenda, challenging big-money politics, so pundits caricatured him as radical, divisive or self-promoting to marginalize his movement.
