Gore is one way. But I’d argue you can have gore without horror. So don’t lean on gore to provide horror- it won’t work. Horror is…horrifying. It’s often existential, its loss of control, over our bodies, life, mind, the world, the cosmos. The terrifying things that we have little control over.
