Take to the streets on Oct 18!
“We have to remember that we hold the power through our labor, our convictions, & our numbers. Through our numbers, a new system, a new way of life that puts workers over billionaires is possible,” -UE Local 1466 Pres Ramona Malczynski

CGSU bargaining committee stands together smiling with the TA held up
CGSU-UE Local 300, graduate workers at Cornell University, ratified their first contract yesterday with a 97 percent yes vote! The local attributed the win to the mass participation of graduate workers in building a strike threat. (1/5)

To pique your interest: This film depicts the story of famous union activist A. Philip Randolph and the unionization of the black porters of Pullman Rail Company during the 1920’s. A story that is important to the history of organized labor, and stands to inspire us today as we keep fighting!

These next four years will not be easy on us, but we're ready. Talk to your coworkers about the union. Sign a card if you haven't. It's time to get to work. 💪⚡ 3/3

We stand against attacks on our queer colleagues. We stand firm against incoming attacks on organized labor, on the right to protest, and our local community.
We stand up for the most vulnerable among us, we fight to protect diversity at our school, and we will win justice and dignity for all. 2/3

With the inauguration of the Trump administration occurring only two days ago, we are compelled by our values to make a statement:
We stand against attacks on our immigrant colleagues, regardless of documentation. We stand against unconstitutional attacks on birthright citizenship. 1/3 🧵

Image shows the logo of NMSU-NEA, above the text "GWU stands with the faculty union as they begin collective bargaining! We support each other because we're stronger together. Good luck NMSU-NEA, and never let them forget: NMSU works because we do!".
Below the text is a photo of NMSU faculty union organizers, fists raised.
Local 1498 is proud to stand behind the faculty that have supported us since we got started. We're all rooting for you as you embark on your first collective bargaining adventure!

Additional note: I sketched the image above as an idea for what the eventual graphic might look like. Comms said "that's perfect" and pressed send. Still can't believe my poorly handwritten blue text on a black background is what went out officially 😅

Nonetheless, on behalf of the elections committee: Thank you for showing up on such short notice. A turnout of 69% is very nice, better than most federal elections! The elections committee & bargaining committee couldn't have done it without you, the rank-and-file members who keep NMSU running.🩵 4/5

With this new contract won, there's also the issue of holding NMSU to the terms they just agreed to. We're going to need your help to succeed in both of these endeavors!
Members run this union, so get involved, and bring your coworkers!

While this is a win, we've still got a lot of work to do, and a lot of room to grow as a union. At roughly 175 members, we're doing well, but are a ways away from majority. Not to mention, there are departments we don't have a single member in! 2/5

On a black background, the left side of the image displays two stacked, poorly hand-drawn pie charts. The top pie chart is roughly 70% shaded in lime green, and blue handwritten text above states "69% participation". The bottom pie chart is more of a shaded-in circle, also lime green, and handwritten text above it states "100% approval".
The right half of the image is entirely blue handwritten text, that reads "Our members have voted to ratify the tentative agreement reached by the bargaining committee!".
GWU members:
You voted UNANIMOUSLY to approve the tentative agreement reached by the bargaining committee! We have a new contract!! 🎉
Let's enjoy this win, and remember that the fight is not over. 🧵1/5

At the bottom of the flier is the logo for NMSU graduate workers United, alongside a QR code.
