Sunday braai and a nice, gifted bottle of red wine. I'm not much of a wine drinker; I'm more the taverna table wine type of drinker.

A summer of heavy rain has meant that we've been battling snails a lot of the time. Thankfully, not all doom and gloom.

I watched this today. It's based on the novel by Denis Johnson. Devastating, poetic and beautifully cinematic. Hard watch emotionally but well worth it

They like cool soil and short days and don't need too much watering. Good luck.

I planted them in early March, here in South Africa. I get all my seeds from a local company that grows and supplies a variety of Heirloom seeds.

Yes, smells wonderful. Growing garlic teaches you patience, and the process is gratifying.

First of the garlic. Egyptian Pink. The Persian Star variety is probably a few weeks away from harvesting.

Almost through this biography. For fans of the poet, I would definitely recommend it. Some biographies are fascinating, even to the casual reader; this is not such a book, though.

I recently read Butcher's Crossing by John Williams. I was a little underwhelmed. Not realising that Stoner was from the same author, I followed Kindle's suggestion and read it.
A truly brilliant novel, wonderfully written. A story of an ordinary man that will feel so familiar.

Thanks to Emma Smith’s Old Friends Project for Wild Eye, my part of the #Scarborough-Whitby cinder track has acquired new resting places.

The view may be different from the coast at #Karlovasi, but I think that the poet #YannisRitsos would have approved.

It's been a good day. Time spent in the garden, cooking outdoors and got the kids to step out of their rooms for a while. All in all a big success.
