John Healey: “We weren’t involved in the strikes.”
Kuenssberg: “Were they legal under international law?”

‘Pretentious’, ‘hyperbolic’ and ‘irresponsible’: what was behind Nine newspapers’ Red Alert series? Experts have questioned whether the Sydney Morning Herald and Age’s alarming series was inspired by an attempt to undermine the stabilisation of Australia’s relationship with China

Red alert! It's March 2026 but Australia & China are NOT at war.

In 2023 the Nine papers screamed that "Australia faces the threat of war with China within three years – and we’re not ready." An expert panel had been assembled about the peril. #auspol www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Wasn’t sure if there was sarcasm included. As far as I know, shifting to more sustainable energy use is still a good thing.

Last week we said wages were not driving inflation. Today the latest data shows wages were up 0.9% in the Dec 2025 quarter. Profits were up... 6.4% and non-mining profits were up 5.5%.

Gee what a coincidence that happened at the same time inflation spiked

Fawned over? This morning on Insiders he was made to look like an idiot by the simple expedient of asking him questions. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work? Ask questions, let the audience work out what they make of the answers.

I do wonder whether anyone actually listened to Penny Wong’s words this morning. Or just heard what they expected/wanted to hear to make their pre-prepared hot take.

What I heard was very cautious, highly coded language. The message to me was, “The US and Israel have done something we don’t support and have grace concerns for the ultimate consequences.” But hey, why bother using intelligent analysis when you can go to a predictable response from the box set?

Reform blame ‘the majority of voters’ for their lack of electoral success. “If we had MPs elected by the frothing minority, Reform would be in government!” said rapidly blinking, foaming at the mouth, Goodwin.

Premier drops public service speech on LNP donor cash access day An assistant minister was sent to speak in David Crisafulli’s place at a public sector summit, after the premier’s diary filled with other priorities.

The current cash-for-access rate for the Queensland premier is $8,800 per 15mins. Say you were a donor with a controversial history who wanted to put up a very tall, controversial Gold Coast building, you could lobby the premier for their support. #qldpol www.brisbanetimes.com.au/politics/que...

Very important point. Reform should be a dead duck. Instead they’ll continue getting outsized media attention because they MIGHT win a seat or several where the vote fractures in multiple ways in a FPTP system.

Green party wins Gorton and Denton byelection, pushing Labour to third place in blow to Keir Starmer Hannah Spencer elected as party’s first MP in northern England, as Labour sees a 25.3% drop in vote compared to 2024

Look at the Greens+Labour vote in Gorton and Denton and a Reform win should never have been in play. 1st past the post is truly mad. Be grateful for the Aus electoral system. Etc.

Not an original thought, not the main story here, but worth saying again and again.

Is it? At a by-election government with a massive majority is on a hiding to nothing. That the progressive side of politics soundly beat the Trumpist numpties of Reform is gratifying. ~24k-10k. Likely many Labour voters went Green scenting they were the best bet to win. Good win for the left overall

The main story must be Reform is on a road to nowhere. People will likely vote for whoever is best placed to beat them. If that also nudges/drags Labour back left a bit all to the good.
