Trump’s attack on Iran violates UN rules Canada has agreed to uphold. It contradicts numerous values PM Carney claimed he supported in Davos. Endorsing illegality, violence, & destruction over dialogue and peaceful resolution is not what Canadians were promised, or support.

The math doesn't lie.

Danielle Smith spent $17 million on "Alberta is Calling" to recruit new residents. But spent $0 on the infrastructure to support them.

Now that the bills are due and the services are failing, she’s pointing the finger at the very people she invited.

Now the big leap:

β€œKeep the $23B and Alberta has a $14B surplus.”

This assumes Alberta would keep all federal taxes without taking on federal responsibilities.

That’s ridiculous.

Albertans pay more federal tax largely because average incomes are higher (especially in oil booms).

That’s progressive taxation at work.

High-income individuals and businesses everywhere are net contributors, including within Alberta itself.

Lloyd Axworthy, who wrote this opinion piece, ends with:

"In a world where preventive wars multiply and great powers act first and explain later, middle powers like Canada will someday wish they had defended the UN Charter when they still could."

7/ My thoughts are with the people in Iran and around the world who are watching this unfold with heartbreak and uncertainty.Β

The current attacks on Iran must stop now, before the entire region is plunged into conflict, death, and destruction.

1/ The images coming out of Iran are already unbearable. Reports of an elementary school struck by missiles, killing dozens of people, with scores more killed around the country. Fear and chaos in the streets as families run through smoke and search for safety.

NDP statement on
Iran bombings
Following the events in Iran, Alexandre Boulerice, NDP
Foreign Affairs Critic, issued the following statement:
"The NDP strongly condemns the American and Israeli bombings of Iran.
This is a dangerous escalation that risks dragging the entire region into a major conflict. The oppressive and bloody regime of the Ayatollahs is reprehensible, but its nuclear program must be managed through the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In fact, its Director General, Mr. Grossi, recently indicated that he was working with the Iranian administration to resume inspections and reiterated that there could be no solution other than a diplomatic one.
The NDP deplores the Carney government's decision to blindly support this dangerous venture by Israel and Donald Trump's
administration. We want Canada to be a voice for diplomacy, peace, and international law."

Danielle Smith is doubling the debt, with nothing to show for it.
YouTube video by Naheed Nenshi Danielle Smith is doubling the debt, with nothing to show for it.

The UCP squandered Alberta’s near-record resource wealth and still produced a $9.4 -billion deficitβ€”a failure of basic financial management.

Somehow, under some of strongest economic conditions in a generation, life is going to cost you more.
