The most intense parlor game in Sacramento right now is projecting who makes June’s Top Two gubernatorial primary: Not who will win, but if the Top Two could actually be two Republicans. @paulmitche11.bsky.social games it out:

that's a Getty screwup. Brown had left CAKE, started a new band called Deathray, recorded some records, then left Deathray, all before this photo was taken. Xan has been in the band 25-30 years

Gavin Newsom's sweetheart deal for plastic pushers The governor pushed an exemption that would undermine California's revolutionary law to phase out single-use packaging that's not being recycled or composted. It's not too late to get it back on track...

When he signed SB 54 in 2022, Gov. Gavin Newsom called it a "nation-leading" law fighting plastic pollution. Now, because of him, the law is in limbo. Here's how Californians can get it back on track.

Political earthquake. Nithya Raman is running for mayor.

Not only does this pose a serious threat to Mayor Bass, but it reframes the June primary in a way that benefits down ballot progressives in other city races.

Props to NPR for leading the newscast w/ the president's racist post. But, c'mon...they're not false narratives. They're lies. Words matter (Once again, don't give me the 'but we don't know what he knows or is thinking.')

DSA candidate narrowly takes the primary in NJ 11 to replace Mikie Sherrill... vote split is reminiscent of the recent Sacto mayor's race primary, where Dr. Flo consolidated the left vote while McCarty, Pan and Hansen split the establishment vote.

Can Porter do the same in Gov's race?

Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

This is one of those times when a journalist writes "casting doubt on" instead of just saying outright that a politician is failing to do the thing they promised to do. Happens all the time for no particularly good reason.

Americans always overestimate our involvement in Europe during WWII. For the record, US casualties in European theater were approximately 1-2% compared to Russian casualties. +/- 250K vs. +/- 25 million

That some Americans would revise the history of January 6 is no surprise - we taught the "Lost Cause" version of the Civil War in US schools for decades. "States Rights" my ass.
