Writhing and incomplete without it. He blushed at the sensation, but pushed it away. No, it hadn’t been the krill that had unbalanced him. It had been her. Her enormity. The way her cerulean orbs had sized him up. The push against his small and faltering consciousness; she had created some need in him. Something pressure-bound, salt-rimed, eons-old and yearning to wake. This was no whale. This was The Drowned Queen: Our Lady of Deep Waters, Starlight Extinguished, First Among The Dishonoured Dead. His mistress. Not bound in some distant dolorous dream but here, in the lightless ocean that sloshed against the reddened depths of the Heart. Here amidst the scattered ruins of her empire, here in this endless benthic stillness, here in the infinite deathbed of the deep, she was more than a susurration that lapped against the edges of his mortal mind.
