Pure procedural stuff, you hardly have to commit to much of anything because you can change the settings at any time. With masks and stencils though, you're committing more since you're straight up drawing stuff, so changes take more effort than just some sliders.

Doing good realistic textures for environments in Blender requires some amount of commitment. A lot of the time I find myself wanting to not use my tablet at all, but with stencils and masks, you can push realism so much further than with just 100% procedural everything.

I suppose I could use materials from the internet, but just make sure I bake them to reasonably sized textures. You always gotta make a call whether a procedural texture or a baked texture will perform better, and if I just pack a ton of islands all into the same UVs, it could work fine.

Trying to make some decisions re: texturing for the wrestling ring scene. On one hand, if I create my own textures, I can control the complexity of the procedural portions easily, but on the other, they will almost certainly look much more amateurish than finding stuff online.
