Mar 3: No rumors, but there are lies...mostly to keep others safe. And there's a whole secret group of people making sure the monsters don't get out of hand, so their lives are partial lies.

Mar 4: Stella 100% does not put any stock in luck or the Fates. is she right...?? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I like that one! But I agree, it does feel very produced. I think my personal favorite is Ghost Hunters, followed by Expedition X (which isn't just ghosts, but it's still fun)

Ooh, guilty pleasures aren't something I've thought about! I think Stella would find watching TVβ€”especially those 'ghost hunter' type showsβ€”a guilty pleasure since she know they really exist and how to deal with it. That and sneaking cookie dough ;)

The staggeringly fabulous cover for CE Murphy's upcoming BONE & BLOOD, a retelling of "Snow White, Rose Red" features two women standing back to back: one is garbed all in blood red, with dark red hair and a black mask; the other wears flowing white, with wheat-pale hair and a glittering mask. Cover art & design by Ravven.

A page of teaser text from BONE & BLOOD, reading:

A hunched and twisted man stood before her, half her height, his neck bent at an angle to look up and meet her gaze with colorless eyes. From the look of him, he had been ancient before his own birth, and his clothes were older than that. Gold loops nestled in his long earlobes, and he wore a metal crown upon his balding head, battered, tarnished, bejeweled, like a joker's pretense at being king.

Dread and determination shivered through her. She cast her gaze beyond the dwarf, searching for his footprints in the snow: there were none, as she had known there would not be. The moon blinked to a sliver and hung dim in the starless sky, until all the light in the world came from the dying fire behind her and the glow in the dwarf's pale eyes.

"Will you not invite me in?" he said, and his voice was everything that his visage was not: sweet, deep, soothing, rich enough to sip from.

There were rules: Adele knew that well enough. There were rules, when the forest offered up a thing from its deeps. There were rules of hospitality, of threats that came in threes, of youngest sons and kingdoms to be conquered.

But those rules were for the woodcutters who were heroes, and not the widows they left behind. There were no stories for those like her, and the broken-toothed dwarf would barter what she could not afford. She was no fool; she understood the world that she lived in, and all of the costs for living in it.

And so she did the only thing she could: opened the door wider, stepped aside, and spoke.

"Please come in, Master Dwarf."

The problem with "Snow White, Rose Red" as a fairy tale is there's not much *there* there.

So I put some There in it. πŸ‘€

Close up photo of the bare shoulder and part of an arm of a Caucasian woman. There's a band-aid where a vaccine was administered and she (well, me, so HI!) is holing a lollipop with a red wrapper over part of the band-aid. The background is a dark wood door.

Many thanks to the pharmacy student who not only delivered one of the most pain-free shots I've ever had (yay for shingles vaccines!), but also gave me a lollipop! Because even adults want to know they were brave... #vaccine

Feb 26: I don't know if I'd say nosy, but definitely extra curious... for a good reason. And that will come to play in a future book 😈

Stella is pretty self-aware, but often talks herself into denial (especially about romantic feels) or lets self-doubt take over. But she's aware that she's doing it, so that's progress, right?

Image is a book graphic. The background is a black and white photo of a spooky one-lane dirt road surrounded by dark grasses and mostly bare trees. The sky is foggy and you can literally feel a chill along your spine. Centered toward the bottom are five yellow stars and under that in bold white serif font "Best effing road trip ever" ~Amazon reviewer.

At the top middle is an e-reader with the cover of Bad Company: Almost Like Magic, book 1, by Jill Corddry. The cover is mostly black with faint silvery spider webs along the left side. In the center of the cover is an oval surrounded by a silvery curlicue frame. Inside the frame is the arm and partial torso of a Caucasian woman holding a ceremonial dagger, aimed slightly outward. She's wearing a plaid flannel shirt that's rolled up just above her wrist, displaying a band of tattoos around her wrist, and there's also a red, eight-wheeled spoke tattooed on her right index finger. In the background are purple and green mists and the silhouette of a crow in a bare tree. The titleβ€”Bad Companyβ€”is at the top of the oval in a sort of spikey white font. At the bottom in a more loopy font reads Jill Corddry Almost Like Magic, book 1

Screen capture of the first page of the urban fantasy novel Wild Spirit: Almost Like Magic, book 3, by Jill Corddry. The text reads: Clouds of dust carrying the ancient aroma of neglect puffed around my feet as I gingerly eased myself down the dark hallway. Each step measured. Terrified I’d fall through what remained of the floor, bringing my fellow trackers crashing into the basement, landing on top of me. The old house was in the midst of a massive renovation, and after dozens of minorβ€”and unexplainableβ€”incidents, two contractors ended up in the family clinic this morning, with a third rushed to the Rock Springs emergency room. The two under my care babbled about cold spots, tools and equipment moving on its own, and general feelings of being watched. Hunted, they said. The incidents became more extreme today, starting with misplaced tools
