@andresmh this is the one that I use for my Intel MacBook Pro 16”. It’s a power hog and this is one of the few beefy enough to charge it at full bore. But it can also charge three other lines at the same time up to 108 W. Downsides: the brick is not small and super lightweight.

Significant layoffs at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Richland, WA) today. Hundreds of people lost their jobs and were given under 30 minutes to gather their things and be walked off the premises.

I wonder how many of my students know the true origins of the name Linux. Or, as I like to refer to it, GNU/nix v51.

@alarith I’ve seen something similar in the RER B in Paris. Trains disappear from the list once it’s considered too late to catch the train without running from that screen to the platform. Different screens in the same station will show a different list.

What I wrote in that paper explains why I vehemently disagree with the conclusion of the opinion piece that I started this thread with:

"Any solution to this problem needs to increase the pace and rigor of science to better match the pace of technology innovation."

Cars are the wrong analogy for computers. They should be more like toolboxes, kilns, assembly lines, ateliers, etc. Something that just works as-is, but that you can hone, master, refine, adapt, and otherwise appropriate to suit your own purposes.

A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes
