This is a really important idea. I started questioning my gender in my 30's to come out at 34, and started E at 36. I have spent a lot of time trying to find clues, compare other people's stories to mine, reviewing history, and maybe I just don't need to. Maybe I can just answer, "It's complicated"

The Story is probably the biggest part of why I didn't figure out I was trans until I was 34.

i understand this is hard to believe and i don't mean to diminish the headwinds we are all facing right now but you have to remember that using shock and awe to make bigotry look more popular than it is is fascism 101. most people did not just forget that trans people are normal in the past 8 months

Yes! There were, in hindsight, a couple “signs” but it was more light desires to do things atypical of a man. Maybe that counts as dysphoria, but it only really approached what most people think of in my thirties when I realized what I was missing.

And to clarify, informed consent anywhere is relatively new in the grand scheme of things.

Many doctors will let you do informed consent without seeing a therapist at all, and the idea of requiring somebody to put themselves out there without the option of medical help feels very wrong to me.

I’ll admit, though, that I thought this was more universal within the US than it apparently is.
