Parents are free to choose private, faith-based schooling, but that doesnβt mean religious private schools should receive special tax treatment. We are pleased the Court has ruled against attempts to apply faith-based carve-outs to these schools. humanists.uk/2026/03/03/c...

UK Government βcommittedβ to collective worship in schools
The UK Government has announced plans to replace Circular 1/94, its thirty-two-year-old guidance on collective worship in England, and publish updated advice on its collective worship requirements lat...
The UK Govt said it's 'committed' to keeping collective worship in state-funded schools.
It's offering new 'objective, pluralistic, and critical' guidance.
But that's the problem, isn't it? Worshiping a deity is inherently not objective, pluralistic, or critical.

5000 legal humanist weddings in Northern Ireland. What a milestone and it's great to read what it has meant to the 5000th couple! It was a long legal battle for us and the fact that it has made such a difference in so many lives is moving. Now for England and Wales! humanists.uk/2026/01/13/n...

A very productive day in the Young-Prince household. I myself have been tiling the downstairs toilet floor.
They're fancy stick-on tiles, but that counts, right?!

Thought I'd do a few things on the house DIY list today. Started three jobs, finished half of one. Managed to fuse a screw to a drill bit. Added an extra hole to the wall. Gave up.

That would be the 'easy' solution but given the history of Cleveland Police I don't think that would be a popular move. I do wonder if Cleveland and Durham end up coming the oversight under Policing Boards or some such body, perhaps with the Mayors sitting on it

Tees Valley Combined Authority covers two police forces - Cleveland and Durham (Darlington being the Borough in Durham PF). So yes Cleveland is wholly covered by a Mayoral Authority but there's an outlier in Darlington and won't be as easy as just giving the powers to the Tees Valley Mayor

A great victory for a local community, and for inclusive education!
Defaulting to close the non-faith school should never be the answer to falling roll numbers across schools of different types, especially as the non-faith school is the only one that actually caters to everybody.

The team have repainted the fencing and equipment, as well as tidying the area and cutting back the shrubbery.
It's looking much better!
