Sunny & Birch were 3 years old when we saved them from a kill pen along with other young #mustangs and #babies. We’ve been gathering evidence to show the Bureau of Land Management is using the Sale Authority (SA) loophole to shuttle #wildhorses into the slaughter pipeline. #animalcruelty

6/ SHAME on the BLM for shirking their mandate and effectively removing all protections from wild horses and burros. We will continue to shine a white hot spotlight on this atrocity. #governmentcorruption

5/ These numbers disprove that claim entirely. Legally, the BLM has been able to use this loophole since 2004, but last year, they chose to maximize it.

4/ BLM website: “The Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management care deeply about the well-being of wild horses, on and off the range, and it has been and remains the policy of the BLM not to sell or send wild horses or burros to slaughter.”

3/ Since that day, the BLM immediately switched tactics from funneling horses to slaughter via the Adoption Incentive Program to marking all horses for Sale Authority at $25 - even babies.

2/ FY2025 sales hit an all-time high at 3,718 nearly closing the gap with adoptions (4,330) for the first time ever. Adoptions actually declined from their 2021 peak of 7,369 after the Adoption Incentive Program was exposed in @nytimes and ended by court order in March 2025.

1/ BREAKING NEWS - A huge development in our investigation into Sale Authority (SA) babies. The BLM just released the numbers for SA sales in FY2025. They show the most dramatic spike ever in numbers of horses sold SA without protections vs adoptions.

We don’t know why they would shoot them after sanctuary was offered for all of them whether they had vision problems or not.

Our 9000 acre #sanctuary in #OR is a vibrant, healthy #ecosystem with a myriad of #wildlife happily coexisting with our #herds. This #coyote caught the attention of Bo & Dundee, but they often walk thru the middle of the herds without getting so much as a glance from the #horses.

Whiskey & Silver, senior #mustangs at the #SantaYnez ranch, were elated to be let out after a long stretch of heavy rain. Their world had turned a thousand shades of green, peppered with puddles for rolling in the mud. #horseheaven

Oh the joy of captured #wildhorses being able to run wild and free again. Boots the #minimule welcomed Wyatt and Titus with a game of chase on green #Malibu hills after the rain.

Hera, Sheldon, and Magnolia are Skydog Cremellos. None of them have had problems with their eyes. Jojo was born at Skydog to her South Steens mother, Nugget, who was rounded up pregnant. Her blue eyes are healthy, bright, and beautiful.

A Cremello baby tumbled out of a truck at the corrals during the 2024 roundup. His mother was euthanized for being a Cremello earlier that day. Her foal was sent to the corrals to fend for himself at only a few months old. A wonderful local rescue saved him and named him Birch.

In the summer of 2024, two more South Steens Cremellos were euthanized by the BLM during a roundup. One was a 6-year-old mare on the 2nd day.

All 11 were killed solely for being Cremello and having blue eyes. Some people at the BLM are so biased against them that they killed them even though sanctuary had been offered to them all - with or without vision problems.

In 2022, we posted our outrage about the shooting deaths of 11 Cremello mustangs during the South Steens roundup in Oregon. They were shot at the trap site by the Oregon BLM supervisor and included Survivor, a well known and much loved #wildhorse.

A 2016 study by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Veterinary Teaching Hospital found that blue-eyed horses are no more likely to get disease of the eyeball than brown-eyed horses.

Cremello #horses are beautiful with #blueeyes and creamy-white coats. Perfectly healthy cremellos are often euthanized in BLM #wildhorse roundups, due to misconceptions that blue eyes are more susceptible to vision problems that will prevent them from leading a normal life.

When we were first contacted about this young #mustang from Utah, Cookie, he had been starved nearly to death. This week, Scott Wilson photographed him at #skydogsanctuary in Oregon, robustly healthy, strong, beautiful in his freedom, running thru the snow.

1st touches with Wyatt reveal he’s a love bug. We shaved his brand to learn he is 20yo from New Mexico. Adopted when he was young, he was seized back by the BLM, then readopted. Judging by the condition of his feet, he was neglected quite a while before being sold into the slaughter pipeline.
