all eyes are on Kat but a similarly leftist Democrat has an apparent shot at a neighboring suburban district as well:

For Mahmoud Khalll, this past year has been marked by profound hardship-and by profound courage.
A year ago, Mahmoud was walking home through our city after sharing an iftar with his wife Noor when he was detained by federal agents, flown to Louisiana, and then held in an ICE facility for months. In that time, he was forced to miss the birth of his first child. All of this for exercising his First Amendment rights in protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
And yet, even in the face of that cruelty, there has also been beauty. New Yorkers raising their voices in solidarity. A city refusing to look away. Mahmoud won his freedom, and a father was finally reunited with his child.
Last night, as we marked the one year anniversary of his detention, Rama and I were honored to welcome Mahmoud, Noor, and their son Deen to Gracie Mansion to break our fast together.
Mahmoud is a New Yorker, and he belongs in New York City.

It's actually interesting how they are overtly doing what many folks who want to control discourse around Jews do.

When they don't like what other Jews believe, they find ways not just to invalidate their views, but to invalidate their very Jewish identity.

And now they are doing it with polling.

This is probably true for now, but the way the trend lines in US right-leaning youth look, it may not be true in a generation. Still a good reason why Jewish organizations should support expelling a Congressman who said this about Muslims.

You average normie Democrat in 2026 loves AOC, wants to abolish ICE, and thinks Israel shouldn’t get another penny from us.

It’s laughable how out of touch centrist consultants and politicians are.

A country hated by so many can never be safe. And now too many people equate all Jews with the Israeli government (which is false and unto itself antisemitic) and that also makes Jews less safe. We can never achieve peace through bombs and burning streets. 3/

09.03.2026 01:44 β€” πŸ‘ 17    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

And a further note about Israel: as a diaspora Jew every single thing Netanyahu does makes me feel less safe in the world. The narrative that world Jewry needs Israel to be safe has been upended by an Israeli leader who has perpetrated so much violence and made so many enemies. 2/

Trump and Netanyahu have caused so much harm and inspired so much animosity towards their respective countries (and sadly of Jews in general) it will take generations to undo it. If we can at all. It’s dizzying to consider and terrifying to think of the long term implications. 1/

We have a government more outraged by spaghetti straps than their own caging of human beings.

And since these *dress code violations* will undoubtedly impact women more than men the policing of women’s bodies adds a whole other layer to this.

Just a reminder that Muslims have been on this continent since the first arrival of non-Indigenous people. They were among the first generation of Americans, and have been here ever since.

The Republican party is a white nationalist organization. The Ogles, Fines, and Boeberts are not outliers and should not be treated as such, just because they are the ones who go full mask off. They are representative of what this party is.

New Quinnipiac poll shows Trump continuing to crater:

37-57 overall approval
39-58 on economy
38-57 on handling of Iran

The kicker: 55% say Iran did NOT pose an imminent threat to the US, while only 39% say it did

He's really settling in at that 38% number on many fronts, isn't he

Pissed off that Ihssane Leckey didn’t drop out because we could have Mermell instead. Leckey also did nothing locally between in her congressional runs and the audacity of her to run again this year when there are better primary challengers instead. She also treated her campaign staffers awfully.

ICE shot Ruben Ray Martinez, a US citizen, in cold blood.

In an interview his mother says she remains a Trump supporter, that this isn’t political, just about the death of her son.

It’s a cult & cults get stronger with violence: to no longer believe is to admit she voted for her child’s murder.

Thing is, it's not just Goldman's wife who publicly and privately expresses hatred and disdain for Palestinians and Jews who disagree with him about Israel. I have personally watched as Rep. Dan Goldman called Palestinians *"sub-human"* at a public forum in my Democratic Club. That is a direct quote. No one with such views is fit to represent Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn in Congress.
I called Rep. Goldman after that meeting to express my dismay. On the phone with me, he did not deny or apologize, but rather walked back the statement to say he only meant certain terrorists. This is insufficient. First off, Goldman is a Congress Member and a lawyer and knows damn well his words matter.
He should have clarified in public. Second, it is a scientific fact that those terrorists are and were full human beings. Human beings do terrible things. All the time. Very often, those terrible things start with denying other people's humanity.
This Times story just reinforces that the Goldman family believes that people of differing races and religions deserve different rights and treatment.
Dan Goldman is a human being like the rest of us. He deserves some grace. But he's unfit to be our Congressman. Please vote him out in June.

From a well-connected Facebook friend. Dan Goldman is not fit to be in Congress. Luckily you have a fine alternative in Brad Lander

Two people in custody after 'suspicious devices' found outside NYC mayor's official residence The anti-Islam protest was led by right-wing influencer Jake Lang. It's not clear whether New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was in Gracie Mansion at the time.

Happy to know that our Mayor and First Lady are safe, but horrified that there was such a disturbing threat of violence outside their residence.

Vile displays of Islamophobia will never be tolerated in our city.

If you say that it is β€œthrowing Jews under the bus” to correctly call Israel an apartheid state and raise the legitimate question of whether the US should give aid to Israel, you abandon the grounds to call out actual antisemitism at a time when it is rising.

yes and also she saved our ass in a few ways:
1. downballot in a lot of swing states
2. enthusiasm. the cultural enthusiasm and motivation for volunteers that we got with Kamala at the top of the ticket made the difference. NO one wanted to make calls or knock doors for Joe.

my theory of the Harris campaign, which makes exactly nobody happy:

1. she was put in an incredibly deep and arguably insurmountable hole by Biden

2. she made significant errors, largely in not separating herself from him enough

3. her results were still in the upper range of plausible outcomes

The Israeli military at the direction of its elected government and with the full support of most of its population murdered over 20,000 Palestinian children.

Zohran Mamdani was polling at 1% when he entered the NYC mayoral race. He had the NY Times telling people *not to even rank him on their ballots.* The leaders in his own party wouldn't endorse him. It is in fact a politician's job to motivate people to vote & hire people who feel the same obligation

I don't think American Jewish institutions like the ADL and the AJC have fully reckoned with how their behavior during the Zohran Mamdani mayoral election is going to prove to be the kind of generational mistake that will place American Jews in greater danger for years to come.

The US-Israel relationship is finally facing a reckoning. It doesn't need to slide into antisemitism | Joel Swanson Israel’s role in drawing the US into a war on Iran is attracting healthy scrutiny. It’s also creating a permission structure for antisemitism

ICYMI: I wrote about how legitimate and much needed criticism of Israel is becoming more common in the US than at any time in my life, and antisemitism is also on the rise, and the thorny question of how we sort through them: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
