The Nicobar Pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend. The extant range of this species includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Malaysia, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Solomon Islands, Thailand and Papua New Guinea. It occurs on islands around these countries such as Nicobar and Andaman. It is famous for being the closest living relative to the now extinct Dodo. The Nicobar Pigeon is also the only member of its genus. It is threatened by trapping for the pet trade, food, habitat loss, predation by non-native predators and gizzard stones to make jewellery. Its habitat includes small islands within dense tropical forest (up to 500 metres above sea level), mangroves and coastal areas. It can occur singly or in flocks. The species is mainly frugivorous but will also take invertebrates such as insects and crustaceans (the latter from coastal areas). They forage on the ground or in trees.

The mute swan (Cygnus olor) natural range includes Western Europe and parts of Asia (mainly Central). It has been introduced to USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Its habitats includes lakes, slow moving rivers, canals and sometimes salt or brackish water. It breeds close to these locations and feeds on plants such as stonewort, water crow-foot, hornwort, grasses, algae and more. The species will also eat invertebrates and from my own personal experience it loves sunflower hearts! They also like bread from humans but it is not good for them (so please do not give them bread). It is one of the World's largest and heaviest flying birds (9-11.5kg). It is not actually mute but is called that because it makes less sound than other swans. They are usually lifelong monogamous but occasionally 'divorce,' or seek a new mate if one of a pair dies. Black swans are native to Australia with introductions to some countries such as the UK and New Zealand. This species (Cynus atratus) is of Least Concern on the IUCN Red List with a stable population trend due to its very large range. It is a waterbird that needs a habitat of wetlands, freshwater and brackish/saltwater lakes. It can also be found on ornamental lakes. They breed in large nests (made of reeds and grasses) close to water and are monogamous. Both parents incubate the eggs (taking turns) and look after the chicks. Black swans are herbivorous and will eat algae, water plants and grass. They are also lifelong monogamous.

The Asian Fairy-bluebird (Irena paella) is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but with a decreasing population trend. Its main threat is trade use. This species is extant to South and South-east Asia and its habitat includes tropical lowland and montane forest, where lowland forest is of greater importance. They consume mainly fruits but will also consume invertebrate prey. Their bill is powerful to break into tough and large fruits.
