U.S. citizen from Skokie stopped at O'Hare, detained by immigration officials for nearly 30 hours Sundas "Sunny" Naqvi and five others were detained at O'Hare Airport by federal immigration agents and taken to a holding facility in Wisconsin.

“Naqvi’s sister, Sarah Afzal, said she almost filed a missing persons report when she couldn’t get answers from local or federal police.”

“She was right here and then she was in Wisconsin,” Afzal said. “It was terrifying.”

And her family was only able to
know info due to her phone’s location.

Process for when train car smells like smoke/someone is smoking.

Evaluate if I can hold my breathe for a few stops. If it’s overwhelming I switch cars. Today it smells and someone smoking but it’s just a few stops so I’m putting up with it. It’s tough for the sinuses & train environment.

That’s a good question. I was wondering the same. Maybe they haven’t spoken or are being less public, were released before. I’m sure we’ll know in the coming days.

“From there, Afzal says a stranger offered Sunny a ride and took her to a hotel, where her family was finally able to reunite with her.”

I do not understand this act of aggression and violence towards children. Why do people have so much hate?

Avondale has a diverse Latine community. I really don't get how people move next to a Ballet Folklorico studio and behave with such ire towards them.

We also need to rethink how we see detention centers as sites where immigrants or undocumented people are taken b/c it feels far beyond that.

Air travel has become a lot riskier for certain racialized (regardless of citizenship status) groups and I don't think we understand the extent of it.

This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.
