... so we kill all these amazing species to make yet more things to kill people? Great.

Crow watching is more interesting & entertaining than most things that we can do before death imo.

Crows are monogamous. Families defend their territory in spring & summer. In winter they form super social roosts overnight when the sun sets where thousands of birds meet up for safety, warmth & education. Single birds flirt & date. In the morning, they disperse again.

That sounds like a reasonable compromise. I don't know of other ways to achieve that. I know in the UK that some shops manage online wedding lists in a similar way, so if I were ever in a similar position (which seems unlikely!) I would investigate that option.
02.12.2025 21:28 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Took a walk through/around my #wildlife area this morning. Took binoculars not camera but heard more saw. Did watch a wren, goldcrest, redwings and a buzzard. Also picked up a few apples from 100s on floor and put to one side to collect on way back. One got pecked to bits during that 20 mins!🤦♂️
02.12.2025 11:24 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Why is it that bee eaters all have to look so visually appealing? Do bees somehow get hypnotised/distracted by the colours and not sense their impending doom?!🤷♂️
01.12.2025 21:58 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0They are certainly convenient, but then convenience is what got us into this mess! But anyone attempting to make ethical/"green" choices in how they spend their money is probably best avoiding them. They also bankroll climate deniers and those spreading climate disinformation.
01.12.2025 21:53 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I believe the bit about books, as any scientist using a publisher would have a hard time dissuading them from using Amazon. Perhaps the majority also shop there, although in the UK at least I have seen a number of scientists speak out against them.

01.12.2025 21:31 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I also thought that was one of the most striking images. Amazingly the comments are still full of claims about CO2 being the gas of life and a "trace element", etc, etc. I hope they're mostly AI disinformation bots, as it's even more depressing to think they might be real people.

Wow, see what you mean! I wonder how many were added by AI bots designed to spread climate disinformation and apathy.

A ferrule is any of a number of types of objects, generally used for fastening, joining, sealing, or reinforcement.
They are often narrow circular rings made from metal, or less commonly, plastic. Ferrules are also often referred to as eyelets or grommets.
