What differences do you see?
20.02.2025 23:34 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0The text of this screenshot reads: "Calliope the non-releasable mink is up to her shenanigans! What are everyoneβs plans this weekend? (Smiley face with heart eyes emoji)" The image shows Calliope, a small, cute brown mink poking her head out of her wooden house in her enclosure. It's a close up image, so we don't see much of the surrounding background. Calliope's face takes center stage with her small dark eyes, soft round ears, and gently tapered snout. Context: Calliope the Mink is a spunky permanent resident at For Fox Sake Wildlife Rescue. She is non-releasable because she is from domestic fur farm mink lines, and may carry genetics that would be detrimental to wild populations of mink. Her mother was a microchipped pet domestic mink named Annie that had become lost in Utah and was recovered by Rocky Mountain Mink Refuge. While at RMMR, just shortly after arriving, Annie surprised everyone by giving birth. All of her kits were placed with specialized homes and wildlife educational facilities around the country once old enough, with little Calliope heading to For Fox Sake in Tennessee. Calliope is a bit violent and bitey, but in a way that is very endearing to her fans. She is well known for her love of stealing cell phones right out of her caretaker's hands, and she even has her very own toy phone that she gets to keep and play with.
This is a screenshot of a hilarious comment on For Fox Sake's post, taking into account Calliope's backstory and history with cell phones: Primary comment: Angela Benander responding to For Fox Sake's post featuring Calliope the non-releasable mink: I feel like I might adopt "a non-releasable mink" as a title for myself. "Hi, nice to meet you. I am Angela, a non-releasable mink" And then I'll slap the phone out of the other person's hand Further reaction comments: Mustelid Madness Rescue responding to Angela Benander: OMG I'm dying (falling over laughing emoji, skull emoji) Rocky Mountain Mink Refuge responding to Angela Benander: This made me LOL so hard. I think I'll pull that on my husband. Angela Benander responding to Rocky Mountain Mink Refuge: *SLAP*
This interaction had me ROLLING π€£

A pause in doom-n-gloom:
Emmy playing with plush French fries.
When Frosty arrived, she hated being touched. She would flinch away at the slightest touch.
Force free/fear free training brought us to this point. I was even able to give her subQ Adequan injections for arthritis w/o restraint or assistance.
A photo of a cream colored mink, playing with brightly colored toys in the straw. The text on the image reads "From biting to bonding."
1/13 𧡠Sorry about that- I've collected my thoughts out of the ADHD ether that is my brain & have pre-written everything out this time! Back to the topic of AIC, biting, and bonding with the mink

Nico scritches. As he aged he developed spinal stenosis & was less active, though treatment with Adequan injections helped him continue to enjoy walks and play to the end. Video sped up to keep it within time limits.

Emmy's color is referred to as "palomino", and her eyes are red. Fur farm mink come in a wide variety of color mutations that do not naturally occur in wild American mink. Farm mink have been line bred and inbred over 150+ years to solidify color, pattern, & other coat mutations

A grey mink stands next to a plastic tub filled with fresh snow. The mink's paws rest upon the edge of the tub, and he is looking directly into the camera with an admonishing expression. The mink is missing his left ear and has a large pink nose.
FINALLY got some snow here in northern WY... Apparently it's been so long since I've worn snow clothes, my attire freaked Lysander the heck out! He treated me like a scary monster- I had to remove my coat & hat & sit with him a while so he could verify my identity under all that swishy fabric.

A cream colored mink is playing in a plastic bin filled with snow. We can see the underside of her chin, neck, and chest through the clear plastic of the bin wall. Her chin has a narrow white patch of fur that is almost indistinguishable from the white snow surrounding her.

Snow enrichment day! I think she would build a nest and live in there if I let her! Mink are absolute creatures of winter. Snow, ice, half frozen water to dive in- they live for it βοΈ

Finally got Emmy's snow day video edited to fit Blue Sky! She is such a little creature of winter βοΈπ¦¦π

A screenshot from the Instagram account "wyoming.mink.rescue". The image features a cute black and white domestic mink standing on a block of ice. The mink is mostly black, with white feet, a white underside, and a white chest. The upper portion of her head and face are black with white fur on the lower half of her face starting just below her eyes. She has several black freckles in her white face fur. Her nose is pink, with two prominent black freckles down the center of her nose.
Let's do another color! This little mink named River is a "Jet cross", in some countries also called "black cat/tuxedo".
River came to us from Arkansas after being illegally sold as a ferret. She received dental work here & was later adopted by Rocky Mountain Mink Refuge in Utah π
