An old record sleeve with a photo of four men dressed in matching Adidas tracksuits for obscure reasons. Three of them are holding long logs/branches that are much taller than them, also for obscure reasons. And why are there not four logs/branches, as many as the men?

An Icelandic record from 1985 named 'Saturday Night'.

A bent page in a book, but it hadn't been torn off, so my brother is not the culprit.

My brother used to eat little corners off book pages. In the small library of the small town we lived in, I'd sometimes get a book with a few missing top corners, and I'd know he'd read it at some point. I wonder if any of them are still there and if people have puzzled over this.

☞ ☞ ☞ the index finger is a pointing gesture to be found in manuscript and print traditions. It was used to draw the reader's attention to a certain part of a text or image. This slow-moving thread highlight a few of them:

So thankful for winter Olympics while sick and vegging out on sofa. 7 year old daughter supports Canada because, and I quote, "They make the syrup." Can't argue with her logic.

The outraged people? Those are having some opinions on Lupita Nyong'o possibly playing Helen of Troy.

So, I did not remember that Helen of Troy hatched from an egg after Zeus raped her mother in the guise of a swan but now, thanks to Strange Outrage on Internet, I do.

It's caught for human consumption and has been since the 60's. It's an important food source for cod, but capelin has been moving further north. There's less of it than there used to.

Map of Iceland. In the sea to the north and east, there are colourful lines that go back and forth, almost like a sewing pattern.

There are five ships sailing along the north and east of Iceland in a pattern, searching for capelin. It's a daily moment of mindfulness to check on their progress, provided by the Icelandic Marine Research Institute: skip.hafro.is

Ok, while Iceland Space Agency sounds a little bit funny, it's a genuine research institute. I think their main focus is research and training for extraterrestrial environments because the Icelandic terrain is, apparently, suitably alien. The Appollo 11 astronauts trained here in 1967 and 1969.

To the chagrin of Icelandic logo-designers.

Circular logo with black and red border, on which is written "Iceland Space Agency", and "Frá Íslandi upp í himingeim". In the middle of the logo, there is a circular Icelandic flag on top of a white outline of Iceland, on top of a starry sky. Above the country you can see the edge of the moon, below it, the edge of a reddish-brown planet that is Mars. We know this because also on the outer circle, it says "Moon" and "Mars", though not in the same place as where the planets are placed in the inner circle.

The Iceland Space Agency has a strangely busy logo. It fascinates me.

At least once a day, I think about the fact that the United States is trying to buy or steal our neighbours. That is an actual thing that's happening in my lifetime.

I have sensory issues with eating greasy or powdery food with my hands, but many, many cursed years went by before I figured out that I'm an idiot because the problem of crisps can be solved with chopsticks. Lo, I bring this knowledge to you who suffer but haven't received the same epiphany 😌

Yes, it's a similar folklore tradition. The Faroese also have these stories.
