05.08.2025 04:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But heyβ¦ they held onto Owen Cassie who will probably have a rough rookie year in 2026, not play in 2027 due to the strike, and might start looking better late in 2028.
2029 World Series here we come!!
I do really think that being unable to give full throated support to Mamdani is a nice test of who should be primaried.
04.08.2025 23:15 β π 609 π 80 π¬ 9 π 2As the posts noted (green highlights). These are Dem-voting areas. Trump wants payback. Hit their wallets and their way of life.
04.08.2025 15:31 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Correct. But as the post outlines, all those folks in the town who rely on them do.
04.08.2025 15:19 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Lotta Blue voters in all those places. Is this some type of retribution for all the imagined slights Blue/Educated voters visited upon MAGA?
04.08.2025 04:12 β π 18 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0So, assuming we manage to get out of this ever, what do the Democrats need to do to undo at least the superficial damage to higher ed?
03.08.2025 21:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It always bothered me that for a country that was unabashedly pro-capitalism, the βFossil Fuel CEOβsβ never once thought to develop renewables on the side to double their profits later. No innovation to make more money with a better product.
03.08.2025 07:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0- 71% of Utah voters support keeping Bears Ears protections in place.
- Nearly 9 in 10 Utahns believe Tribes should have a strong role in managing these sacred places.
Itβs time to honor Traditional Knowledge and protect Bears Ears for future generations.

This is a very tough one because I feel compelled to line up my song for when I would have pitched* (mid 00βs to maybe 2020). But my top 4 options:
(1) Twilight Zone- Golden Earring
(2) Mr. Brightside-The Killers*
(3) Bad to the Bone-George Thorogood
(4) I donβt Wanna Stop-Ozzy Osbourne*
My worry is they are going to test a βSCOTUS Reviewβ of amendments and itβs going to work. Theyβll never pass a legit amendment given how itβs supposed to work. But in their mind, what good is having the courts if you can use them to bend everything to your will.

Couple pen reinforcements and a nice bench guy. But they needed a SP. New pen guys are gonna burn out by mid Sept.
Waited for the deadline, assumed a SP would be there, got nothing. This is why you sign free agents over the winter.
JFC! Literally an anti-science stance from one of our countryβs top centers for science. I got nothing else.

But this week U Michigan announced they arenβt even accepting applications for the 2026 epi PhD admissions cycle.

Coal is not beautiful; coal is not clean.

My last teaching gig the dept faculty admins were quite clear on this: students are our customers and we need to keep them happy.
31.07.2025 22:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If you work in higher ed, you need to get your folks together and end the use of course evals or at least bar their consideration in evaluation, promotion, and hiring. This needed to happen yesterday because they don't measure learning, they measure instructor gender, but now it's a snitch pool.

31.07.2025 14:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Keller has been good, but Counsell seems to have lost faith in him? Hasnβt seen much high leverage action recently. But thatβs what happens when you burn out your pen.
31.07.2025 14:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The βdealβ that Brown made with the Trump admin is much more extreme than is being reported. It includes government oversight of course evaluations and no barrier to government interference in faculty hiring.

I feel confident that whatever the #Cubs paid Jed Hoyer for his extension, I could do just as bad a job but it would only have cost Ricketts HALF.
30.07.2025 02:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the US profoundly needs a children's rights movement. children are not property... they deserve opportunity and learning and autonomy and security.... and our country just does not acknowledge this
29.07.2025 23:59 β π 12589 π 2809 π¬ 217 π 218Exactly. We need people in Congress to realize (sadly) that the GOP are no longer your friends so please be mean and donβt worry about offending anyone by opposing them tooth and nail.

30.07.2025 02:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I gave up on βbipartisanshipβ when the Tea Party shutdown the government and refused to do anything because the President was Black.
It died then; the rest was just enabling as you said.

30.07.2025 01:48 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The US has been, in my lifetime, one of the most anti-science countries in the world. Any βdiscoveryβ that conflicts with personal beliefs or the bottomline is deemed unimportant.
And now led by a pro-ignorance government, we are all gonna lose.
I always felt their plan was to deny, delay, obstruct, until we past the point of climate tipping. Then say βitβs realβ and we have to aggressively drill to meet the demands of folks who are most affected.
I think weβre almost there
