This is a very tough one because I feel compelled to line up my song for when I would have pitched* (mid 00’s to maybe 2020). But my top 4 options:

My worry is they are going to test a “SCOTUS Review” of amendments and it’s going to work. They’ll never pass a legit amendment given how it’s supposed to work. But in their mind, what good is having the courts if you can use them to bend everything to your will.

UMich cancels doctoral epidemiology program admissions for 2026 The University of Michigan School of Public Health will not admit a 2025-2026 admissions cycle cohort to its PhD in Epidemiologic Sciences program.

People thought I was overreacting when I said Trump’s list of “banned” words meant epidemiology was itself defacto being banned.

But this week U Michigan announced they aren’t even accepting applications for the 2026 epi PhD admissions cycle.

My last teaching gig the dept faculty admins were quite clear on this: students are our customers and we need to keep them happy.

If you work in higher ed, you need to get your folks together and end the use of course evals or at least bar their consideration in evaluation, promotion, and hiring. This needed to happen yesterday because they don't measure learning, they measure instructor gender, but now it's a snitch pool.

The “deal” that Brown made with the Trump admin is much more extreme than is being reported. It includes government oversight of course evaluations and no barrier to government interference in faculty hiring.

The US has been, in my lifetime, one of the most anti-science countries in the world. Any “discovery” that conflicts with personal beliefs or the bottomline is deemed unimportant.

And now led by a pro-ignorance government, we are all gonna lose.

I always felt their plan was to deny, delay, obstruct, until we past the point of climate tipping. Then say “it’s real” and we have to aggressively drill to meet the demands of folks who are most affected.
