That's true for many. But there are lots of issues that don't necessarily involve additional taxes and may, in fact, save some people money or not involve finances directly at all.

There is a gap between *what* people want and *who* they're willing to vote for. In my red state, ballot initiatives for more progressive policies pass, but then the fight comes from the 'red' dominated state legislature who tries to overturn the results. Some just can't vote for Dems bc of pol ID.
