Wu Campaign Calls on Josh Kraft to Return Contributions from Trump-Affiliated Law Firm and Donations from Misleading Emails
Following reporting in the New York Times that New York-based law firm Paul Weiss is providing millions of dollars in free legal services to advance Donald Trump's chaotic and dangerous policy agenda - under a deal reportedly brokered by Robert Kraft - the Wu Campaign is calling on Josh Kraft to return thousands of dollars in contributions from top Paul
Weiss management.
"Josh Kraft's campaign is being propped up by billionaires, Trump donors, and lawyers engaged in implementing Donald Trump's anti-Boston agenda," said the campaign. "While the City and people of Boston are facing unprecedented attacks from Donald Trump, Josh Kraft has repeatedly refused to return these contributions. We are once again calling on Josh Kraft to stand up for Boston and return these contributions immediately."
Legal scholars have widely decried the Paul Weiss settlement
as
particularly
corrupt
and
unconstitutional, establishing a framework for Donald Trump to extort major law firms and punish companies that refuse to submit to him. Soon after the deal his father brokered between Trump and Paul Weiss was announced, Josh Kraft accepted thousands in donations from major partners in the firm.
According to OCPF records, Josh Kraft has received at least $7,000 in max-out contributions from Paul Weiss management, including Chairman Brad Karp, who directly negotiated the firm's agreement with Donald Trump, and other senior leaders of the firm.
The Paul Weiss donations are not the only set of Kraft campaign contributions with troubling origins.
Last month, the Boston Globe and other outlets reported that Josh Kraft was sending highly deceptive fundraising emails disguised as appeals from national Democrats, including Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina and U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas. The emails sparked rebukes of Josh Kraft from two other elected leaders whose names he used, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff and U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell of California, both of whom stated that they were unaware Josh Kraft was using their names and images to trick donors.
Josh Kraft has refused to disclose the number of contributors who donated in response to the emails or the amount raised. The scandal contributed to the ActBlue platform changing its policies on candidate fundraising emails.
"Josh Kraft should do the decent, honorable thing and return the contributions to every person he tricked into donating through these scam emails," said the
Wu Campaign.
We are calling on Josh Kraft to immediately return campaign contributions from lawyers engaged in implementing Donald Trumpβs anti-Boston agenda and those received through the campaignβs scam fundraising emails.

Statement on Josh Kraft's
July Fundraising Report
Amid reports of unethical fundraising practices, Josh Kraft - who frequently preaches fiscal responsibility - reported spending $1.8 million in July leaving him with just $148,000 cash on hand, only months after cutting himself a $2 million check. With the Kraft campaign running on fumes, just two days after his
"relaunch," voters deserve to know how many millions Josh Kraft is planning to spend on his campaign to buy this election.
We have several questions for Josh to answer since his campaign's current financial situation leaves him with limited options for the next steps in his campaign:
1. How much of his own fortune will Josh now insert into his campaign? He has already infused $2 million.
2. How many more Trump donors and out-of-state billionaires will give to Kraft's SuperPAC?
3. Given his cash on hand, is Josh's campaign now in debt, especially with certain consultants appearing to defer their monthly retainer payments?
4. Are any staff or consultants supporting the Josh Kraft for Mayor campaign, including those who do not appear to have been paid in the July finance reports, also on a contract with any other Kraft Group entities? If so, how is the Josh Kraft for Mayor campaign ensuring that such an arrangement does not constitute an illegal corporate contribution?
Boston is not for sale.
We have some questions for Josh Kraft.

Statement on Josh Kraftβs Everett Stadium Conflicts of Interest
Josh Kraft and his family continue to treat fair negotiations with the City of Boston over their for-profit soccer stadium as a joke. For more than six months, they have refused to provide basic project information to the City, while sticking to a lowball mitigation offer that is totally unacceptable to Boston residents.
As a pre-approved owner-in-waiting of the New England Revolution and as a candidate for mayor, Josh owes the public answers about his glaring conflicts of interest and the reasons for the team ownershipβs strong-arm tactics. Our City deserves a mayor who always puts Bostonβs interests first, not one hiding behind their own conflicts.

Bloomberg News screenshot with text: Josh Kraft Helped by Dad, Rich Pals in Bid to Oust Boston Mayor
Kraft, 58, has already raised more money in an election year than any other mayoral campaign in Boston history
- and that's with the Nov. 4 contest against Mayor Michelle Wu months away. The super political action committee backing his candidacy is on track to smash city records for outside spending with more than $2.5 million going to fund advertisements, billboards and text messages, according to campaign finance records.
It helps that his father is Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots football team, who has a net worth of $8.9 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Donations backing Kraft's mayoral run have poured in from wealthy individuals who run in the same elite circle - including those with few ties to Boston.
Fanatics Inc. founder Michael Rubin, hedge fund titan John Paulson and Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam have made six- or seven-figure contributions.
"That's what fathers do. They support their kids, as kids and adults," Josh Kraft said of his father's effort to drum up donations from rich and famous friends.
Combined, Kraft's campaign and super PAC have raised $6.3 million so far, including a $2 million contribution from the candidate himself. Kraft's self-funding alone is more than Wu and a super PAC that's supporting her have raised in total so far this year, with the most significant donations coming from labor and environmental groups. The average per-donor contribution to Kraft's side is more than 13 times that of Wu's.
That hasn't stopped deep-pocketed donors from stepping up. Rubin, whose sporting apparel company has major offices in Florida, New York and California and who counts Robert Kraft as a close friend, contributed $1 million to the pro-Kraft super PAC, while the Haslams donated $50,000 apiece.
Paulson, a major Republican donor who was under consideration for the role of Treasury secretary in President Donald Trump's second administration, contributed $100,000. In 2015, Paulson gave $400 million to Harvard University to endow the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, whose campus now bears his name and is located in Boston.

Q: Why are you choosing to run as a Democrat? What does being a Democrat mean to you?
A: I think the history of Democrats, especially --
(A Kraft aide sitting in on the interview interjects: "You are a Democrat.")
Well, no, I'm a Democrat. But running as a Democrat means to me, the history β there's a part of the party that's, I think it's called the Blue Dog Dems now, but that's sort of been lost. And a lot of folks [say], "Oh, the Democratic Party has lost its way," you know, whatever. I believe firmly in that traditional Democrat pathway, not only about supporting people, working people, but also being open to listening to every side and understanding how to get things done by partnering and listening to others that might disagree with you, which was always a hallmark β whether it was Tip O'Neill, Ted Kennedy reaching across the aisle.
βDemocrat for Mayorβ plastered everywhere & this is what it means to him π€
