this is the westray wife i assume she and buddo are friends and go on quiet little adventures when the museum is closed, finding lost buttons or cursing the perfidious or whatever

a whalebone carving on a little plastic stand. shaped a bit like a child's drawing of a bell but oddly boxy, it has a crooked face made of crude and extremely mismatched holes that together form a look of benign confusion and maybe a coming sneeze. it has an enormous bellybutton (?) but no other features such as limbs or any earthly explanation. i love him and you do too

Table titled β€œNational COVID-19 Risk Table (U.S.)” dated March 2, 2026. It shows the probability that at least one person is infectious based on group size. Risk increases with size: 1 person (1.3%), 10 people (12.4%), 25 people (28.2%), 50 people (48.5%), 100 people (73.5%), 200 people (93.0%), and 300 people (98.1%).

A note explains that in a group of 25 people representative of the U.S. population, there is about a 28% chance of exposure without testing or isolation protocols.

If the United States is going to go around the world causing regime changes, we should practice here first.

We Lived Happily during the War

And when they bombed other people's houses, we

protested but not enough, we opposed them but not

enough. I was in my bed, around my bed America

was falling: invisible house by invisible house by invisible house-

I took a chair outside and watched the sun.

In the sixth month of a disastrous reign in the house of money

in the street of money in the city of money in the country of money, our great country of money, we (forgive us)

lived happily during the war.

AIRE v3.6 is out.

Added:
β€’ Scenario presets
β€’ Turnover modeling
β€’ Time-to-threshold risk
β€’ Clearer CO2 assumptions

Small version bump. Meaningful improvements.

Seeing people you respect talk about using AI is also kinda like if your home was burglarized and all your belongings were stolen, and you show up at a friend’s house and she’s wearing your favorite shirt. And oh look, there’s that Stickley rocking chair you got from your grandmother in the corner.

01.03.2026 14:07 β€” πŸ‘ 33    πŸ” 8    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

Maybe we should start asking for payment. β€œOh you use AI!? You owe me…” pull out phone, scroll to calculator app β€œ$14.73 times… How many minutes did you use it?”

Anthropic did the same to me and millions of other authors. Our life’s work. Using AI is not only continued use of stolen work, it’s terrible for the environment, and a hardcore tool of fascism.

Seeing all these posts from people I follow and respect about casual use of AI. It reminds me of the way everyone just ignores the fact that repeated COV infections cause brain damage and Long Covid as they walk around unmasked in a world where over 40% of COV infections are asymptomatic.

AI is theft. Created by stolen works. (All 60+ of my backlist novels were part of millions used wo the authors’ permission.) Using it shows approval of IP theft and is doubly morally dubious because using it is a tremendous strain on the environment. Hope your badly created calendar is worth it.

My son came home CRYING.
Teacher told him: 'Your book report on Nnedi Okorafor doesn't count. Pick a REAL author.'
I was at the principal's office in 20 MINUTES.
'Nnedi won the HUGO AWARD. Define
REAL!
Principal sided with the teacher.
I pulled my son out. HOMESCHOOL now.
Best decision EVER.
He just finished book 15. All African authors.
His confidence? UNSHAKEABLE. b

Strike on Iranian primary school kills 148, authorities say Girls’ education facility hit as US and Israel launch joint military operation

The death of possibly more than 100 little girls in a primary school. How is that not a central news story today across all serious outlets?
And thank you, FT, for being one of only a few newsrooms driving attention to what happened there.

Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.

The acts of defiance can be big or small. Painting over a bigoted piece of graffiti. Running a youth club for refugees in an area that mostly loathes them. Wearing a rainbow flag in an anti-queer neighbourhood.
These acts all accumulate towards something better, I have seen that in action.

I built AIRE, a free browser tool that estimates airborne COVID risk indoors using the PMC framework.

It also offers an optional β€œcigarette pack equivalent.”

Why?
Because 3% per event is abstract.

Cumulative harm is easier to grasp on a familiar scale. 🧡

we were probably all up last night staring at the ceiling with our own version of the same thought running on endless loop, but mine looked something like this:

I hate these people to a degree that feels simultaneously corrosive to the soul, and also the only righteous response to this kind of evil
