would go back even further to the Kulturkampf of the late 19th century. Authoritarian culture wars are one of the red threads in modern German history.

If our government were more capable and competent they would make access to the UK easier for overseas students and researchers.

Einige vermeintlich bรผrgerlich-moderate Konservative in der CDU scheinen Herrn von Papen und Konsorten imitieren zu wollen.

Japan education ministry OKs plan to exclude foreign PhD students from living expenses aid - The Mainichi TOKYO -- The Japanese education ministry's human resources committee on July 30 broadly approved a plan to limit the recipients of living expenses aid

An extremely unwise move which will damage Japanโ€˜s universities. Pandering to xenophobia.

You are right. Outrage only helps if it leads to political mobilisation.

PS if ppl want to do a PhD project which requires foreign languages, they need to learn them instead of relying on AI.

It is an unwise political decision that will turn most Australian universities from international centres of research and teaching into provincial backwaters. Australian society will be dumber as a result.

If blind obedience to the ruler is the only criterion for holding office state, society and the world will suffer.

Change proposals risk relegating ANU to middle-ranking regional uni Well known historian and long-time ANU staff member, Frank Bongiorno, says he has never seen, such a lack of vision, such a vacuum of ideas, such general disorganisation, nor such cavalier decision-making about institutions and programs built up through hard work over decades in all his years at ANU. He outlined his concerns in this submission to ANU management.

A future in which [ANU] brings up the rear of the Group of Eight and then, unable to compete, evolves in short time into a middle-ranking Australian regional university. That is what is at stake here, writes Frank Bongiorno #auspol #ANU

Front page of Warwick.ac.uk

Self-inflicted embarrassment for the University of Warwick โ€” first it rebrands hyper-generically, then someone totally unhinged decides the *front page of the uni website* should say โ€˜Learn more about our Brandโ€™.

Much better to use a proper map than staring at one's phone. The Falk maps are a pain to fold back, though.

Very sad to hear of Alfred Brendelโ€™s death. RIP, maestro.
