Nothing can beat HGSS in sheer amount of content. It is a game that you can easily sink hundreds, thousands of hours into.

It is truly one of the greatest in the series.

Is HGSS perfect? No. The Pokemon introduced in Gen 2 are not all that great, and the level curve is obviously something everyone complains about. But the original GSC revolutionized Pokemon into a game that is living and breathing with daily/weekly events, and HGSS sharpened those elements even more

Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver (replay)

After RSE and DPPt which had apocalyptic implications, HGSS returned the stakes of Pokemon to more modest levels. There is no main antagonist, just the remnants of Team Rocket. HGSS is purely about your journey with your Pokemon and thats why its so pleasant.

I also liked Blue in this game. Its so nice to see how he’s grown and learned from his grandfather’s words to him after he lost the championship to Red, as he’s just a caring, helpful person after he used to be such a douche.

Pokemon Let’s Go (Replay)

I think this game has aged very well and stands out in the series, one of the better looking Pokemon games in the Switch era. Gen 5 will probably always be my favorite, but Kanto is home.

Wish it had better control options but thats about it.
