Sorry for long ass thread it's over now

Last weekend I finally invested in a pair of actual running shoes and the last 2 days I put them to the test. My 5k pace for my normal route dropped by over a 30 second average. Today I crushed my single mile PR by almost a minute. Stats below but man it's crazy how much the shoes help.

While I don't have much of a desire to run in longer races or events, a lot of the motivation and inspiration is thanks to @kekumanshoyu.bsky.social and seeing all of the accomplishments he's made in his running career.

I'll be home for the 4th of July this year to visit family and will be participating in a 5k race with the same friend I signed the pact with, and a few others. Looking forward to getting my average pace even lower than it is and demolishing most of my age group.

Fairly recently I have started hitting 5k runs at a comfortable pace which was a big goal for me. I don't really have a desire to run longer distances but between 3-4 mile outings seem good for me.

While I've always been a big advocate for biking for exercise, and still am, this was done mostly from running. Over most of the last year I've slowly gotten better speed and endurance-wise and am at a point I honestly never thought I would be in terms of my cardio strength while running.

Last summer I signed a blood pact with a friend back home so we would both have incentive to lose some weight. We each set punishments for not making our desired goal by mid April this year. We both made it, I made weight a week prior and he made weight the day of our final weigh-in.
