Statement: U.S. House of Representatives Passes Bill to Take Away Food, Health Care from Hundreds of Thousands of Virginians - The Commonwealth Institute U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to take away food and health care. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate, which has an opportunity to rework the bill in its entirety.

#VaGov seems to be reviving his proposal to coerce local jails to enforce federal immigration detainers or face state $$ cuts. This harms immigrant families & would be costly for localities by making facilities hold people up to 2 days after they’d otherwise be released.

Removing most of the proposed money to lift the arbitrary cap on state funding for support staff would harm Virginia students who deserve clean schools, working technology, and other support staff who can work with their families to address barriers.
