With thundering inevitability, I'm covering FRANKENSTEIN (1931) and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) on The Evolution of Horror. There was so much to be said about these, the most classic of all classic horror films, that @mikemuncer.bsky.social had to split the episode into two! Here's part one...

James Swanton & A.G. Smith

Memorable day with @jamescswanton.bsky.social visiting Featherstone. James discussed Charles Dickens before performing The Signalman - a captivating & chilling re-creation in which he embodied the characters to such effect we were all transported from the #library to that lonely signal box. #theatre

The artful new horror short THE FAIRY MOON - in which I incarnate some semblance of the Great God Pan - will be getting its world premiere at @fantasiafestival.com this month. More festivals to follow. And more details here: fantasiafestival.com/en/film/the-...

Caught @jamescswanton.bsky.social's fantastic Killing Dickens at the Charles Dickens Museum - incorporating Dickens' letters, "The Signal-Man," Edwin Drood and a truly bloodcurdling Sikes and Nancy. Here's hoping for a repeat performance! πŸ›€οΈπŸš©

That's not a message of hope as such, but it does rather validate my view that auditions are not the way forward.

Waiting to hear back about a self-tape (agony), I today worked out that, in my thirteen years as an actor, I've had ten successful auditions. And only eight of those resulted in actual jobs. If I didn't create my own stuff and occasionally get asked to do things, I'd have no career at all.

Cinema is an extremely young art with an extremely well-documented history so there is basically no excuse for anybody who cares about their reputation to work on a JK Rowling project. It’s a conscious choice, made entirely for money.
