Our research associate, Dr. Ackerly, has been a busy fish! She gave a talk at the International Congress on the Biology of Fish in Michigan and then gave another talk at the Society for Experimental Biology Conference in Prague. After all that, she still had energy for fieldwork!

It’s field work season! Our team, along with our colleagues in the Brandl Lab @UTMSI, have been traveling to Matagorda Bay to collect oysters and water samples to test for PFAS/PFOS 🌊🚤

Hello Bluesky! I haven’t introduced myself yet, but I will soon. For now I just wanted to announce that I placed 2nd in the student poster competition at the annual @SETAC_SC conference! It was my first time showcasing data from my research. I am excited to keep the momentum going 🐟 📊

Meet Dr. Kristin Nielsen, the PI of our ecotoxicology lab! Dr. Nielsen is an assistant professor at UT Austin’s Marine Science Institute (UT MSI), where her lab studies the impacts of toxicants on aquatic organisms and downstream implications for human health 🐟

Fun fact: she is a plant enthusiast!🪴

The Nielsen lab presented at the South-Central SETAC Meeting and did amazing! Special congratulations to our student Tamara for winning 2nd place in the student poster competition on her work with Mercury in Alaska!🏅👩🏽‍🔬 We will be posting on here more often with updates so stay tuned 🙌🏽
