MLB Umpires Have Gotten Much Better At Calling Balls & Strikes J.J. Cooper digs into historical data on balls and strikes to see just how much better today's umpires are at calling games.

This is a great example of how data can be used to create a feedback loop that helps humans improve from @jjcoop36.bsky.social and the team at @baseballamerica.com! www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-...

If I ever build a BI tool, the UI will have a button for pie charts. But instead of creating a visualization, it'll just show them this and a LONG text explanation of why they shouldn't use pie charts

The moon landing? Foot prints in dust. Antibiotics? Mold farming. Flight? Even birds can do it!

No. It's a bridge-obsessed model. We see you, Golden Gate Claude

As a Pittsburgher, I pride myself on being something of an expert on bridge obsessions. So I can safely say @anthropic.com's Golden Gate Claude was the absolute pinnacle of humanity's technological advances, and it will only be downhill from there.

YouTube video by Alberta Tech No one actually knows why AI works

This is an excellent summary of how we don't REALLY understand why LLMs make the "decisions" they do! youtu.be/nMwiQE8Nsjc?...

Good morning #PyConUS, it's a great day for lightning talks! I'd love to talk about open data and learn how you're using Python to analyze your data. Come find me and say hi to the sea otters!

Who is coming to Pittsburgh for #PyCon this weekend?! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and showing off my hometown! And, if you like salty sea otters, you'll definitely wanna find me and say hi. You'll be able to find me easily, I'll be the guy in the great jacket!

I wanted to make a joke here, but this is actually a GREAT way to vibe code. Start with documentation, then include that context in your prompt to generate code. Polish and publish!

This is an exceptionally small-minded view. The end state is the same: The US President is probably compromised and now owes foreign governments a favor for accepted payment. This isn't limited to the Qataris either!

Either way, we can't be sure he's acting in America's best interests as a result

And you can invest as little or as much time as you want to unlock that joy! I put up a couple bird feeders in my yard to attract blue jays and cardinals, but I don't have time for much more than that. It's still fun and exciting to see them in the yard!

And honestly, people are WAY more judgy about a kid's first birthday party! For a wedding, they're like "Oh you know what? It's not for me, but it's about what the couple wants"

First birthdays? "Wow, this is how you are setting your kid up for life?"
