Monument Valley (Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning “Valley of the Rocks”) lies within Diné ancestral lands. The towering buttes are considered part of a holy geography tied to Navajo origin stories and spiritual teachings. The land itself is alive and imbued with power.

Afternoon full of doubts turned into a great chase day. Initially a first storm of day started and looked promising, but didn’t make it. A second storm was brewing to the southwest but was struggling for almost an hour to get things done. In the end it was the right choice to stay patient.

I took this picture a few minutes after sunrise from the top of the Rock Pile Trail looking down on Moraine Lake, a turquoise colored glacial lake in Banff National Park. The lake is surrounded by beautiful rocky mountain peaks and evergreen trees. The sky is blue with a few wispy clouds.
