I took a hiatus from fencing for a season, and I returned to it just last week.

As much as that hiatus helped me, returning to fencing has made me feel ALIVE.

After class, I practiced jumping with the mangual and continuing to move and be steady. Jumping once is easy; I wanted to practice several jumps in one flourish.

These movements are in line with Viedma's and Figueyredo's montante rules, applied with a mangual.

Connected to my montante writing project, I've resolved to read more broadly.

Books in English on Jogo do Pau are a little difficult to find, and some are out of print. A few are $20-30, one was $150, and this specific copy is listed for the typical "fuck you" out-of-print price.

I've never been an SCA person, for a few strongly held reasons. I think there's a critical mass of people who speak a common language from these related activities that make random conversations like this possible.

In 2021, I compiled all the freely available montante sources into one document (with their CC licenses intact), and added a Vulgar and Verdadera Destreza glossary.

Soon, I want to make a second edition with an original introduction, interpretations, and diagrams.
