Constitutional amendment to permit mid-decade redistricting would still prohibit partisan gerrymandering In response to blatant gerrymandering by Texas Republicans, Democrats in New York still want to play by the rules that burned them in the past.

Democrats in New York want to combat partisan mid-decade gerrymandering... with explicitly non-partisan gerrymandering.
BUT lawmakers would get to immediately draw new congressional lines themselves and approve them with a simple majority www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

Rep. Dan Goldman says that he and other reps filed a lawsuit today to gain access to the floor of 26 Federal Plaza where ICE is detaining immigrants picked after attending immigration court hearings, where conditions are reportedly inhumane

For those interested, here is the proposed language of a state constitutional amendment to allow mid-decade redistricting in New York if another state moves to do so first

In evidence of the reach of the Mamdani campaign, my bartender in Texas, upon seeing my friend and I were from NY, asked "Aren't you guys going to get government-run grocery stores or something?" (I of course explained that it's just the platform of a mayoral candidate)

"Personally, I find it abhorrent," Gov. Hochul says of ICE agents wearing masks that help hide their identities, while declining to opine specifically on newly introduced legislation that would ban ICE from wearing masks in NY

In lieu of New York's bell to bell cell phone ban, I think the state should instead invest in making all public schools Faraday cages

Nassau County officials and U.S. AG Pam Bondi will soon cut the ribbon for the nation's first police "training village" (basically cop city lite). Live from the corner of Franklin Ave. and Cross Street, and the fake train station, in the safest county in the U.S.

The police department in the village of Camden in New York signed a 287(g) agreement with ICE. Task force model, which permits the deputization of local officers to act essentially as ICE agents. Apropos of nothing, Camden is not terribly far from the town of Mexico.

Based on unofficial results, 1,026,783 Democrats cast votes in the primary. The final round included 973,864, which means there were 52,919 exhausted ballots. That also means that even if every exhausted ballot had actually ranked Cuomo, he still would have lost

Cuomo actually got more votes in final round than Adams did four years ago -- 24k more votes.

Mamdani just supercharged that turnout.

With unofficial RCV results up, it took Zohran Mamadni three rounds to hit 56% and officially win the Democratic primary for mayor. Because the votes for all the other candidates were so low, they all got mass eliminated and redistributed in the same round

What it should be telling is that I don't usually reply to every random response I get to my posts. Btw, the Assembly has 150 members, a lot of names there. If you REALLY want my answer, I've covered Hochul for years and that's not really her style so I said "likely not" since Cuomo's clearly was

"I'm allowed to have as many conversations as I want and make a decision," Hochul adds of endorsing Mamdani. "It's early in the process." She previously declined to endorse Democratic socialist India Walton after she won the 2021 Democratic primary for Buffalo mayor

Gov. Hochul, leader of the state Dems, says she has had the first of what she "consider(s) many conversations with Zohran Mamdani yesterday. She says they "covered a lot of ground" and have "strong interests that are aligned on affordability." But she's still not ready to endorse

NYSNA has now announced it is endorsing Zohran Mamdani for mayor, right on the heels of 32BJ and HTC. That's three major unions now lining up behind that had not backed Mamdani in the primary (NYSNA did not endorse, and 32BJ/HTC backed Cuomo)

Hochul declines to endorse Mamdani, mispronounces his name The governor is the de facto head of the state Democratic Party, but she’s not so sure about the Democratic nominee for NYC mayor.

Today, Gov. Hochul explicitly declined to endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor despite his victory in the Democratic primary. She also mistakenly mispronounced his name both times she said it as "Mandami" (like Cuomo, but likely without the malice) www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

Republicans are champing at the bit to use Mamdani to attack Dems Potential GOP candidates for governor used Hochul’s name more often than Mamdani’s while reacting to the results of the NYC Democratic mayoral primary

It didn't take the GOP in New York long to start using Zohran Mamdani's Democratic primary victory to go after people like Gov. Hochul, swing district congressional members and marginal members of the state Legislature www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...
