First, the federal government getting its economic data from DoorDash is a bit alarming.

Second, people who use DoorDash pay an average of $63 for a meal from McDonald's. Sort of an odd place to look to gauge sensitivity to the cost of food.

I suspect the practice might've arisen from cooling the feet slightly in hopes of cooling the body as a whole...and, voila!, the fever broke! Or the afflicted eventually died from lack of sleep, with all the damp goo in their socks. But THAT would've happened anyway...folk alternatives to science!

Goofy friends of my mother who were sitting with me when I was about 8yo did the onions in my socks nonsense one evening when I had a fever...I took the socks off and the fever broke with a dose of aspirin I took myself by the time my mother got home from whatever event had kept her.
