It's late September and the leaves are browning, the sun is warm and the air is cool. Jayce doesn't hate people as much as he did when he was sixteen, and he feels bad for the teacher they sent to talk to him though he still doesn't regret not reading the pamphlet. A shifting colonnade of trees accompany him as he walks side-by-side with Viktor and they talk about everything like they used to. Again, the crackling of a voice through the static and again, the knife in his stomach, except now he's aware of how much he's bleeding out. The urge to kiss Viktor burns so badly he has to look up at the sky, which is as blue as ever, and that is such an inane observation to make he knows something must be terribly wrong with him. Jayce tries to make some poignant remark on the poetics of the sun returning to rise each morning no matter the disasters that happened on earth. Viktor replies by saying that in just a few billion years the sun will explode and take the whole remainder of humanity left with it, if a stray asteroid or capitalism-empowered climate change hasn't wiped everyone out by then. The urge to kiss Viktor metastasises. Jayce has never smoked a cigarette in his life but he wants one to appear between his lips right now, if only so they'll have something to hold on to.

Finished this ages ago but I fell really ill so I'm posting it now.

In my mind jayce is the champion of this region and he and viktor went on their pokemon journey together.

They both work in science like in canon, jayce has to balance both jobs and viktor turned down being champion.

I think this is one of the best viktor-centric fics. It really gives lots of details on viktor’s inner thoughts and his mental health struggle. It did well for Jayce’s mental struggles too. A really good fic
