I think the primary function of this radar is for the ocean surface to derive wind speeds rather than precip but agreed, would be cool to see it along side the tail Doppler radar. Would also be nice for the poster here to credit the actual source: www.linkedin.com/posts/agile-...

Negative altitudes represent “second trip” like echoes, a reflection of sorts of the real precipitation echoes. Has to do with the radar signal bouncing more than once and thus looking “farther” than it actually is

maybe price has come down recently, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Personally, I think we will go to a variable system design. Where PARs make a lot of sense in tornado/hurricane country and a network of more (including well placed Xband) conv. radars in the mountains

Unfortunately it still needs to spin because the cost of the panels is way to high currently (a single panel radar that spins, will cost way less than a 4 panel radar that doesn’t spin)

Unfortunately I don’t think we get around no moving parts

I just can’t help but to wonder with older satellites if this storm would have looked way less intense even just 10 years ago with GOES-13

If we just had DVORAK and no recon for this storm, would it still be as strong as it is?
