We're, without a doubt, the saddest β½οΈ nation on the planet. If not bad enough that a lot of kids get stomped out of the sport due to costs, our federation is going to issue WC tickets, the only time we'll ever host, based on your wallet size.
They are scalping our tickets.. π

Mr Alexandre Gangue-Ruzic, thank you for touching on the concerns we are all thinking about.
Again, great job as always on the Podcast and lets keep keeping people honest and well informed.

1) Priority access to tix (including seasons tix).
2) Includes all competitions (National & UEFA)
3) Discounts at Benfica Store (I always get enough discounts every year to almost pay for membership)
4) Voting rights (to decide who runs the Club)
This what you referring to?
5/7
Mr Ben Steiner, in the same part of this great podcast you state βclubs have membership fees. In Europe you cant go to a match unless you are buying a membership to a clubβ.
Do you mean "SΓ³cio memberships"? I am a SΓ³cio of Benfica. My "membership" does the following

which includes tickets to all UEFA/FIFA events.
Free. Membership is free.
Maybe I'm just not aware of other, multi thousand dollar access programs where tiered pricing increases ticket access probability, from Federations. I'm always looking to learn something new though.
3/7
In Portugal's case the membership is free, and provides, among many things, access to visit the Federations training center, including watching training sessions, discounts on all gear in the "Portugal Store", a newsletter AND priority access to NT tickets at home/abroad...
2/7
Mr Brendan Dunlop, in this episode you state that βThis is not new, other countries do thisβ. Can you indulge me and provide some examples?
I'm a member of the Portuguese Federations "member" program, called "Portugal+", so I am familiar w/ what "other countries are doing"

Hi gang.
Longtime listener, 1st time caller... π
Got a question, and maybe a few comments about what you stated about the Canada Red membership ticketing "evolution".

Growing Soccer.
Actually.
No gimmicks or money grabs.
The rest of #CanPL has catching up to do.

If you are the least bit interested in "Canada Soccer" you should read this.

Yep.
The predetermined manner in which several players ended up where they did is an insult to North American drafts.
What is the actual importance of keeping up this theater. Are they working a tax break or something?
This isn't about player rights. It's deliberate theater. Several other picks were similar. Bordering on insulting peoples intelligence.

Because this is all theater.
Canada: the only place in the world a "club" would sign one of their "academy" players via a draft... π
Pacific coach James Merriman just referenced his U-Sports "draft pick" as someone they're familiar with as he was in their youth program and referenced him as one of their "academy" products.
It's hard to take this nonsense seriously.

A pretty cool podcast episode about a "local" club, Galt FC and it's "revival" into the community.
When you look at the range of episodes/topics from this podcaster, it's neat to see a little Canadian story make on there.

It was, in part.
380M isn't chump change and 15K temporary seats don't cost that.
Not to mention the training centers that were to be built (that were critical for post tournament legacy) are getting scaled back or canceled.
If going big isn't worth it, this is even less worth it. A waste, no?
I think you've missed the point. These events can spring other opportunities. There will be no tangible outcome left behind.
The WC in Toronto will be nothing more than a Taylor Swift concert. A commercial event. With the same groups cashing in on the Toronto sports market.
$380M and Β£389M.
We'll build 15K temporary seats at an existing stadium.
They will build a net new 115K stadium.
We are the people that built the Canada Arm, a plane that could fly at twice the speed of sound, created basketball and peanut butter.
What happened to us?

PDS will be back next season.

Women's. Football.
Fuelled by club culture. Something we openly reject.

Incredible numbers.
If we are actively opposing and/or restricting strategies used in these countries that lead to these results, we shouldn't.
Unless spitting in the wind is some sort of masochistic part of our culture.
