Helluva book so far

Teachers are very helpful to one another. I'm sure it's related to the fact that many teachers are union members. They share resources and info so readily. In other professions, I've seen so much tension around credit and ownership of ideas. I rarely see this with teachers.

graphic designers love hating on Canva. I think Canva is a decent design tool except for the AI shit they keep shoveling into it.

to be clear, when I say I am not against AI, I mean in general ways that algorithms and automation can be used to ease human toil. I am against the shit they are actually pushing people to use it for.

If they focused on those small but actually helpful uses instead of "creative" uses that require insane processing power, I think people would be less hostile towards it. but I'm guessing the real money is in surveillance and other nefarious military uses and they don't really care about consumers

I feel like I've given AI a fair shake. It's pushed on teachers a lot. but after novelty wears off the most useful thing I've seen it do was basic formatting on large lists of text. a mundane task the would take a long time to do manually.

they of course dont mention the energy usage. It's especially bad in motion design youtube. Like, don't they even enjoy creating. I'm not against "AI". I think there are ethical ways to use it. but these dum dums celebrate to stupidest uses of it.

It's baffling how AI shills try to pitch AI's benefits. Just using it to make bullshit and skip the interesting parts of creativity. The actual benefits of AI are so obvious: organizing, referencing, mundane repetive tasks. But they are so excited about it taking the good parts away.
