Head Start, the preschool program that the US Administration prepares to terminate, has a *negative* cost to taxpayers

Yes: Public funds saved from reduced welfare+incarceration costs, & higher taxed incomes, far exceed costs

Terminating Head Start is ideological wasteβ€”the opposite of efficiency.

Update:

Note that Head Start was born out of the Civil Rights Movement, a federal investment in America' promise of equal opportunity & in our children from the most disadvantaged communities & families.

As someone who benefited from head start, first in my family to go and graduate from college.

It would NOT have been possible through normal means.

Head start not only gets your foot in the door, you get an entire support system to rely on as you navigate college.

Does Head Start work? The debate over the Head Start Impact Study, explained Early childhood education improves school readiness and has impacts not only into adulthood, but on the next generation.

I want to clarify something you said tonight about head start…it is NOT for babysitting!! Being in a head start program can be a game changer for children in terms of long-term educational success. See the Brookings Institute study www.brookings.edu/articles/doe...

Internal budget document reveals extent of Trump’s proposed health cuts HHS would be asked to absorb a $40 billion cut, about one-third of its discretionary budget.

Are they trying to kill us?

Trump proposes a $40 billion cut at HHSβ€”one-third of its discretionary budget. Cuts would hit chronic disease program, rural health initiatives, and HIV work. It would eliminate funding for Head Start.

Worth noting: while Trump is attempting to destroy Head Start in next year's appropriations, they're not waiting to do it legally. They're also holding up funding right now, and centers are closing because of it.

South Carolina is one of those places where no pregnant woman is necessarily safe if she has a pregnancy complication. Add the Republicans' glee at destroying jobs, elimination of Head Start, tariffs to make housing even more unaffordable, elimination of health studies - procreation is a bad choice.

Among the programs featured in this column (which you should read): Head Start, which Trump and Musk have sabotaged and are now planning on eliminating.

Leaving 750,000 children without access to preschool or child care.

Eliminating Head Start also risks leaving hundreds of thousands of US children under-prepared for k-12 school. Which means that it also risks forcing those children into an adulthood where they also have to settle for less-than-ideal partners, less-than-ideal childcare, and/or less-than-ideal jobs.

White House plan would eliminate Head Start, make sweeping health cuts A leaked plan shows programs like Head Start, some mental health funding and efforts to prevent teen pregnancy could soon end.

When Trump closed Head Start offices, I joined 33 Democrats to oppose it. Eliminating it was clearly the end goal – now it’s out in the open.

With no Head Start, 750K+ families lose childcare overnight. Trump's plans leave our families and children behind.

I work in a preschool that is referred students from Head Start. Head Start is a lifeline for families that need support. I invite anyone who thinks this is a good idea to work in a Head Start location for a week and face the harm they are doing to these children head on.

All 4 of my kids, & now my grandkids, have benefited from Head Start. They were very successful in school and have degrees & brilliant careers. My daughter actually teaches Head Start & helps children who might otherwise be lost academically. This is a travesty & will leave so many kids worse off.

Money for the Head Start program, which provides early child care and education for low-income families and is funded by HHS’s Administration for Children and Families, would be eliminated. β€œThe federal government should not be in the business of mandating curriculum, locations and performance standards for any form of education,” the document says.

As reported last week, Trump is going to kill Head Start, utterly screwing 750,000 children who rely on it for child care and preschool and a million parents who count on it to stay in the workforce.

White House budget plan would reportedly scrap all funding for Head Start If Team Trump has its way, Head Start won’t just have to worry about cuts to its funding, it will have to worry about the elimination of its funding.

I don't know if the Trump administration will succeed in eliminating all federal funding for Head Start, but the fact that it wants to speaks volumes about its values and priorities. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

I'm going to go through the "HHS passback" in this 🧡. This is what the White House sent back to HHS, based on HHS's guidance. It's Trump's budget plan, though can still be changed.

To start off, they call to eliminate Head Start, which helps fund free pre-k and learning programs for poor families.

Axing Head Start doesn’t just hurt childrenβ€”it kills jobs. Tens of thousands of educators, social workers, and health professionals will be out of work. Whole communitiesβ€”especially rural and working-class onesβ€”will lose a lifeline. This is economic sabotage disguised as β€œparental rights.”

Head Start and heating assistance targeted in Trump draft budget proposal | CNN Politics The Trump administration is considering eliminating funding for two key federal programs that help millions of low-income Americans educate their young children and heat their homes.

Next on the GOP’s chopping block?

Head Start and heating assistance.

That’s right, taking heat away from families who cannot afford it β€” so they can give billionaires more tax breaks.
