these are def rosy 12 y/o fandom goggles but i recall following all the livetweets as the show was airing and all the cast/crew just had SO much fun with the show and were clearly making something deeply self-indulgent almost to the point of absurdity but everyone (esp fans) bought into it SO hard

this thought arose bc i’m rewatching nbc hannibal and still absolutely LOVE its whole vibe but can easily see why other ppl would think it’s cringe as hell. i just rly enjoy how fully it Commits. imo it is executed so well bc of that and the like… Honesty that i sense from all the creators involved

been thinking about my personal tastes (in art/media but also real life) and think i’ve figured out that i respond extremely well to Pretentiousness but only if it’s like. self-aware. pretentiousness that is not afraid to get humbled

The Veilguard is an idealistic game, but it’s one that BioWare has earned the right to make. Dragon Age’s legacy has been one of constantly shifting identity, at least two counts of development hell, and a desire to give players a sandbox to roleplay in. Perhaps, as Dragon Age likely comes to a close, it’s better to leave the series with a game as optimistic as the people who made it. I can’t think of a more appropriate finale than one that represents the world its creators hope to see, even as the world we live in now gives us every reason to fall into despair. In my review of The Veilguard, I signed off expressing hope for BioWare’s future that feels a bit naive in retrospect. Would a divisive but undeniably polished RPG that felt true to the studio’s history be enough when, after 10 years of development, c-suite suits were probably looking for a decisive cultural moment? That optimism was just about a video game. Having lived through the past 32 years, looking back, most of the optimism I’ve ever held feels naive. I think I’m losing hope that the world will get any better. But even if we haven’t reached The Veilguard’s idealized vision, I’ll take some comfort in knowing someone previously at BioWare still believes it’s possible.

which is to say: in the year of our lord 2025 i proclaim myself a rorschach enjoyer. proudly and without fear. walter kovacs really is that good of a character. the hype is deserved. his design is cool. and the “i’ll look down and whisper no” thing still hits

i’m pretty good at avoiding spoilers for things i Know i eventually want to watch/play/read for like… 10+ years (like i did for nge and sh2) and i managed to succeed in this with watchmen as well. so i got to immerse myself in it without any Fandom Discourse tainting the experience

re: my last post, i take it back. it was watchmen. i finally read alan moore’s watchmen this week and can’t stop thinking about it. i know i’m SO late, i’d been meaning to read it for 15 years, but i think this was another piece of media that got to me right when it was supposed to

may. i finished some other things during the first few days of june but i will be soooo patient and wait until the end of the month

i went into this book expecting to lose my mind over csorwe (and i do love csorwe) but oranna ended up being the real sleeper hit for me. that woman is a nasty freak weirdo. such a delightfully unexpected character

for anyone reading the unspoken name and posting “how the fuck do you pronounce csorwe.” there is a very long and detailed pronunciation guide at the beginning of the book. fwiw you are probably saying malkhaya wrong too
