In the Parkinson Lab at USF, saving Florida's Coral Reef is a top priority University of South Florida

USF media produced a nice article about our lab!

Many thanks to those who put it together, and of course to my students who make the research possible.

Okinawa had its hottest September at 1.6C above the average. I filmed this mass coral bleaching last year, but didn't have the heart to share. Total annihilation of the first few meters of depth. This stuff happens before our eyes, and yet people who think it isn't real keep gaining power.

Why scientists are using corals from other countries to help save Florida's reefs The past three summers have been the worst on record for Florida's coral reefs. To try to restore them, scientists are breeding corals that can handle heat better, using coral from other countries.

A spectacular "cold wake" is evident along former-hurricane Erin's track. This is a normal feature caused by strong winds upwelling/mixing cooler water from below. Erin was not only very intense but also very large, which also helps with the upwelling. The water temperatures will gradually recover.
