Meer Rants: February 2026 Edition USL's Tormenta problem, and why this never should have happened.

Just before the end of the month, out comes the February 2026 edition of Meer Rants, in which I ask: why did USL let Tormenta wait to withdraw from the league?

Now the question becomes: why was this not all sorted out back in the Fall, before a new batch of players signed on a moved to Statesboro?

Yeah, I agree with you re: signings. Mostly it's just people on Reddit trying to do everything possible to get their underwear twisted, or whatever the saying is.

Going through my grandma's computer for files to pass on to my mom (pictures, documents, etc.).

Adding to my list of IRL side quests, I covered one of the semifinals of the National Amateur Cup yesterday! And boy howdy was it a humdinger of a match.

Tormenta kept their USL2 team after turning pro though. As far as I've understood, that won't be the case for Sarasota or Fort Wayne.

The recent teams that have moved to pro after qualifying and have fielded both pro and amateur teams in the ensuing USOC (Irvine Zeta 2024, Club de Lyon 2023) were local qualifiers and came in via NISA. My gut says USL isn't gonna operate that way when they have direct control.

I'd expect Sarasota Paradise and Fort Wayne FC to decline spots (or not be offered them at all by USL) as they're both moving to USL League One next year and would get a spot by default.

Me in 2025 and delayed, canceled, or re-routed flights, name a better combo.

Legitimately, well over half my flights this year have fallen into one of those buckets, it's getting really old.

My frustration with Forward Madison is reaching its tipping point. There need to be some changes, whether that's with players, tactics, or attitudes.

If waiting for a bus at Boston Logan International Airport after 1:30 AM when you were never supposed to be there in the first place doesn't sound like a fresh enough hell, then may I suggest that, with a 20+ minute helping of the airport testing its alarm system?
