Thank you for what you do! Right now I am contributing to aid in Gaza, because I can’t bear to see mothers cradling their starving children. I recently left FWS, and I’m also resisting by continuing public service with a state to deliver natural climate solutions.

Public servants take an oath. Each agency also has a mission they vow to uphold. It is beyond heartbreaking to be asked by an administration to violate these on the daily. It’s an individual threshold, but many face the hard truth that they can do more good outside fed service now.

Look at the federal agency reorg plans and schedule F (career/policy). They’re surgically targeting climate programs and experts at NOAA, NASA, FEMA, DOI, DOD. We are in a climate emergency and are dismissing the A team.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

NEW: per multiple sources, apparently there may be punishment/retaliation coming for EPA employees who signed the Declaration of Dissent this week. People are starting to get letters putting them on administrative leave, seems like potentially targeted at those who signed with their names.

The long-term increases to ICE funding are a red flag.

Clearly, Trump & Co don’t plan to stop once they’ve deported current undocumented immigrants and “secured the border.”

We should all be asking how Trump is planning to broaden the ICE scope of authority. The answers won’t be pretty. 1/

There are still many former ECers on the ground. Unfortunately, there’s little to no support (funding or otherwise) for ecological health, much less ecotoxicology right now. The NWRS needs organic legislation similar to NPS’s so impacts can be addressed by responsible parties.

Rachel Carson started her career at the US Fish and Wildlife Service. I know she would have used the power of her pen to decry the gutting of the agency whose mission she adored.
