Do car-free zones hurt disabled people? We asked experts. City planners and advocates are seeing "accessibility used as a political football."

“…disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folks…”

Family believes Nova Scotia's new medical records system played part in baby's death | CBC News A Musquodoboit, N.S., family says it believes a tragedy could have been averted if not for the One Person One Record system that launched in December at the IWK Health Centre.

Family believes Nova Scotia's new medical records system played part in baby's death

"Her doctor requested an emergency ultrasound...5 days after OPOR was implemented, but that she never got a call about an appointment. The family said hospital staff blamed the confusion on the new records system"

I love Lord Byron’s Kitchen recipes! My favourite is his version of Newfoundland Date Squares. I made a fun version using honey-glazed dates gifted to me from one of my Saudi MFM fellows & mixed some Arab cardamom coffee powder into the oat base

WELL NOW, would you look at that?

A massive, 26-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 2.4 MILLION people in Sweden found found NO EVIDENCE to support a causal link between acetaminophen (the API in Tylenol) use during pregnancy and increased risk of autism, ADHD, OR intellectual disability in children.

So Doug Ford has money for a private European spa on prime waterfront land and to replace a Science Centre that didn't need replacing, but is bleeding a dental program for poor children dry?

And I'm so grateful that @mustafahirji.bsky.social continues to be a truth-teller.

This reminds me of that Frankie Boyle joke about how Americans not only come to your country and kill your people, they also come back twenty years later to make a movie about how killing your people made their soldiers sad.

Yesterday our 10 year-old suggested that we cut the tree down, since the balloon seems well and truly stuck there. That seemed extreme at the time, but if I have to put up with much more barking I may borrow a chainsaw.

Apologies to everyone in my neighbourhood for the incessant barking: there is a mylar balloon stuck in the tree across the street & our Labradoodle perceives it as an acute threat to his (& everyone else's) safety.

Pierre Poilievre is misleading the public about refugee healthcare
YouTube video by The Breach Pierre Poilievre is misleading the public about refugee healthcare

Pierre Poilievre says refugee claimants are undermining Canada’s health care system—but it couldn’t be further from the truth.

@desmondcole.bsky.social fact checks his misinformation and explains how blaming the most vulnerable distracts us from fighting for good health care for all.

I meet a lot of pregnant women at work.
A grand total of 0 (ZERO!) have been advised to get a COVID vaccine in pregnancy.
I would say the majority have bought into the misinformation that the vaccine is dangerous in pregnancy, which is the opposite of the truth.

Translation: Study from the Public Health Institute of Quebec reports that 34% of children aged 2 1/2 already have chronic health conditions. Not a single mention of Covid. Reminder: Quebec BANNED the use of air purifiers in schools and daycares during the pandemic and overall played down the risks.

Nope. And NOPE. This may be “freeing up clinician time” (coz productivity is the only important metric for patient care, apparently), but writing patient notes is a hugely complex process that allows the formulation of a situation & management. Outsourcing the writing removes the thinking.

Mother, doctors call on Newfoundland and Labrador government to expand coverage of RSV shots to all infants

N.L. is one of 4 provinces that only provide coverage for high-risk infants (the others are British Columbia, Alberta and New Brunswick). This is NOT the recommended strategy by NACI or CPS)
