It’s been my opinion from pretty much day one that giant ass frogs are among the most underrated monsters in low-level D&D. Over the years, the number of near-TPKs I’ve had because players underestimated these rubbery, flabby-lipped dudes in their native environment is countless.

The great Stephen Fabian is one of those artists from the 2E era of AD&D that just doesn’t get enough credit or attention. His interior illustrations in the Ravenloft line and Tome of Magic especially stand out. Pitch perfect aesthetic… and what an amazing talent. Pure 💯.

I think the thing I love most about this random weird lich just laying on a cavern ledge in the AD&D module Descent Into the Depths of the Earth are those tiny little magic mouths on the stalactites to either side. What a bonkers encounter to just stumble upon.

Man, I just love this illustration of the giant spider getting ready to pounce on some overconfident adventurers. The pose. The giant eyes. The guy in the very back pointing like “WTF is that!!!?” Trampier was amazing. So iconic, so pitch-perfect for AD&D.

One of the most pleasant surprises I received this whole year was Geo Collazo’s HEY HO, LET’S GO HOME, from Ham And Egg Publishing. Beautifully illustrated by Zack Giallongo, this short story tells a familiar tale but with an all-new spin.
This is everything I love about zines & storytelling 💯
